Colonial Viper Mark II detailing

Well I started on the Mark-II. A lot of modification and fit problems but nothing big. It is very straight forward and can be built in one day, that is if you are not into detailing. The picture on this build are a bit grainy due to my 10 meg pix is being used on other subjects, such as Christmas pics and family, so I am relegated to use my old 2.5 pixel camera that 10 years ago cost 800.00, and now I can get brand new 12 pixel for 159.00. That is progress. Just wait, Plasma tvs will go down soon.

Well any way, Thanks to JayBat for the free model and to the designers. I am considering designing A Mark II my way, but that is a project for next year

More on the build

I almost lost the model when I removed the side recessed panel on the fuselage. The model is joined at that side instead of the bottom and made for a thin connection. My blade was used by that time and instead of cutting thru it pushed its way in. if the bulkhead was not laminated posterboard it would have been crushed at this point.

The engine nacelles were also weak so I had to design supports to keep the walls straight. There was a boxy engine section which I discarded.

Redid the engine exhaust and drew new interior fan roundels.

So far it is coming along well.

Cockpit detail

Made another engine nacelle support out of laminated poster board, Started on detailing the cockpit. Imagined engine what nots cut and placed in the engine recess.

scratch built cockpit. cutting as I go, using ref as guide lines. Cut away engine panels on the nacelles. The pics are grainy, but that is due to my good camera being on Christmas vacation with my daughter. Take my word for it, the cockpit looks good.

The intense part is over.........! Now on to more details and nick knacks and plan on the landing gears. I may not finish this build by Christmas. Hopefully by then I will have my camera back and take some good pics of the finish build.

so my gears would fit into that recessed gear bay after few more modifictations.

am just fresh out of the pines city of the philippiens, baguio city. ain that cold no more(it may be me)

anyways silver-0, got some template for the main landing gear?

also, request for cockpit part template, i will just color it myself too.

Yes they should fit but make them a little longer and then cut them to the size needed. On the Mark-I Colonial Viper, I made the gears too long to clear the wings. Oh by the way Shin, "Magandan umaga", That is about the limit of my Tagalog.

On the MK-II, there is a landing gear bump to accommodate the gear, which is not reflected on this kit model. You would have to scratch build them next to the rear engine pods and wings.

I do not have templates of the gears and cockpit since I did them as I was building. When I attempt to make my design build of the MK-II, I will design the small details and bulkheads. as well as other items.....

Mark II

Silver, Love what you did with the scratch build, I'm starting my Mk II tonite.:thumb: Hope you finish with the small extra, I know they will be amazing and great addition to all us BSG fans out there. Hope to see the stealth viper from the Hero episode soon, that would be a great one to collect.

A bit overboard with my details:

The viper sitting on my shelf just does not look right. When I did my Plastic models, I use to do dioramas to make them look interesting. A model just by itself, is just a model. But when you add action to it, It tells a story.

I was going thru some of my paper model archives and I found the Epson Garage and pit stop tool room. I added it to the diorama and scratch built a maintenance deck out of poster board.

I borrowed some mini wrestlers from my grandkids toy box, smiling at their perplexed looks.

There are other small stuff I am working on, such as a wall and other small items, like ship schematics and pin-ups of boomer, Six and Starbuck.

Tools are something that I would like to do. While I can draw them, my dexterity with the scalpel blade would take me forever. So on with the show.

Small things and more things.

Doing research on the maintenance bay. Working on ladders and ox-cylinders. The more research I do, the more I want to add. I may go for the overkill.:mrgreen::mrgreen:

My Viper beta sketch.

I noticed that the lines do distract some from the model. I did not check on Paragons builds and started to build one of my own.

Here is a preliminary file. I started to build it and had some fit problems.

Working on the bulkheads and engine support. Will add the interior of cockpit and landing gear. My recommendation is to start from the nose up instead of the rear of which I did and had a conflict of the engines with the cockpit.

I had this model almost finished and was about to do the wings when if fell out of my hands and into my mixing paint palette, Enough to say that that it was painted beyond repair.

Will do an instruction build of this one in the future as soon as I see how the parts fit. I do not use CAD programs but the old fashion way of pencil pen and ruler, scan and then use paint and paint-shop pro for painting, cut and paste.

I am still working on the landing bay walls and columns, I believe I have enough details to start building the bay.

starting the maint. bay walls

Here are the preliminary build of the maintenance bay wall. Looking at them, they are modular, which means that when I get to the raptor and other vipers, I can add them to together and make it multi bay.

There three variations of bays, one is angular coming in, another is flat 90 degrees up and the other has openings to the launch tubes. I settled for the easy one, the flat rear wall, which also has better photo ops. The rest of the rear wall will come next time.....
