Hi all, I was wondering if anybody could give me a line on building clear cockpits? Basically I can't get the clear plastic to adhere properly to my card, without the results looking less than satisfactory. Any help would be appreciated
 
for which cockpit?..
a cockpit with flat windows is easy..you cut the clear parts from a box with windows..
a cockpit with curved windows is more difficult..
i would look for the correct curve from a bottle or a plastic jar...( i never used this, my fighters have flat windows)But that is the way i would go.
and just glue them in with multi-glue.
 
thanks for the reply dnalor! it's for a flat Cockpit, dunno but when I glue the plastic, it never sticks properly. using UHU solvent free glue, which do you use?

You can also use stick labels and run strips along the edge of the clear plastic (where you are going to glue it to the canopy frame) and just glue it in place.
That would be the easiest way to do it.

I often have the same problem and what works well for me is to cut out the window frame shape twice and then cut the window to be slightly larger than the opening. I then glue the window betwen the two frames. That way even if the window does not stay attached well It's wedged between to sheets of paper so its not going anywhere.

Going to experiment with both Rhavens and leofirebransds ideas when I get home from work. Both sound like they could work. Never thought of the shoe glue imcold, but hey if it works...I will go with the best outcome though. Thanks all
 
If you have a Michael's Craft store near you, or, can order online, get ZIP DRY. This stuff will glue anyting to anyting, man!. Sorry, listening to Bob Marley, anyways, it is a mechanical bond, which is what you need. It is lignin and Acid free. It has never lifted or interfered with any printed surface the years I have used it. It also doesn't go hard in the bottle, in the cap, yes, but it's glue, and is 'posed to do dat, man. :)

I use Weldbond. It's a craft glue, acrylic base, think. Handles much like Aileen's Tacky Glue, dries clear, and sticks to plastic.
