Any body have any ideas for a coal mine for a small N scale railroad...I like the look of the New River Mine from Walthers but it would have to be realy downsized and I don't want to spend that much money ....I have 2 tracks and moutains to run the shaft into....Cox 47

How abouit scratchbuilding your own downsized version of the New River mine?Shouldn't cost all that much to do using Evergreen styrene siding and shapes.

It seems like most, if not all, coal mines that I've seen are pretty large structures. They're usually 2-3 track industries and will take up a lot of space. Model Power carries a coal mine that's a manageable size, but you'd probably be better off making one yourself.

Instead of doing a mine how about doing a loader? Could be a truck dump where coal is trucked to a rail siding and dumped into the RR cars or it could be a remote loader where coal is brought in by conveyer belt. The coal is then shipped to a prep plant where it is graded and washed.
