CN MacMillan yard

[Matthyro]

The MacMillan yard is just north of Toronto where the 400 highway crosses highway 7. The best viewing point is from the highway 7 overpass which crosses the CN yard on the south. Unfortunately it is hard to see hump action from that point. The map shows the spread of this major yard.

The slugs are reworked GP9s The mothers in the 7200 series are GP(RMs.

Stupid question....... What are the "slug" things? I worked out which bits they are, but what are they for? Fuel tanks? Additional engine????

a"Slug" as its known here in Canada or a "Calf" as its known in the US, is a motor unit without a cab or power source can be aaaacut down redundant GP loco, gives added motive power for switching (I am told) first time I had seen one DaveCN talked about them in his Road Diary's
