This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when profit is put ahead of everything else. Repairing bridges is time-consuming, EXPENSIVE work and it causes no end of delays. Railroads cannot afford that, riding on the thin edge of cash-flow as they are. If they do not make money for the stockholders, the executives are fired and replaced with others who WILL make money. After all, that's why the stockholders bought the stock, to make money...So, when things like this happen and the stockholders want to know what the cause was, tell them to go look in a mirror...
