Guys,

I know this isn't really a model railway request, but it's more of a US connection I need.

I have a 1995 Ford Probe GT with 150,000 kms on the clock. (Fully imported from the US). I've had it since new. I've just put it in for a service today, and get a few things fixed.

Two things, mainly. One of the "fog lamps" in the front grill is cracked and chipped from stones kicked up on the road (globe still works), and the power radio aerial don't work.

Now here's the dish on this. The local Ford dealer has quoted me $450 AUS ($315 US) to replace the glass on the fog lamp. (+ fitting charges)

Next one. To fix the power aerial, they quote $265 AUS ($185 US) just for the telescopic bit (that has come away from the motor, that still works), or..... and get this.... $1,100 ($770 US) for a new power aerial. (+ fitting charges).

$770 US for a car radio aerial???? :eek: :eek:

I've said "no" to both repairs.

So can anyone point me to a relevant US based website that would list part prices for this? i.e. How much would these parts be if I was in the US?

Apologise if this is a bit "off topic", but, as I mentioned, It's mainly US based people on here that I think could assist.

Woodie,Its the same here..You take your car in for a very simple repair they want to rob you blind legally with the parts and repair bill. :mad:

Now,here is what I do..I simply refuse to use a Ford garage for my escort..Instead I take it to a non dealer garage and save money in the process :thumb: But,mind you to shop around first for the better shop and repair costs. :D
 
I can't help you, Woodie. I'm a G.M. f-body fan (Camaro/Firebird), but you might look on the internet to see if there are any Ford Probe enthusiast sites. If there is an interest in Probes, you may find someone in the States who dismantles Probes to sell parts. I know of a guy here in Southern Cal who dismantles Camaros and Firebirds and ships parts world wide.
 
Woodie I live in an area with a couple of Ford dealers and a quite a few junk yards if you like I will make a few calls for you. But I will need the full part #'s as I 'm not a car guy. Pat
 
Woodie, I'm guessing the parts have doubled in price as they have crossed the pond. I'm sure the fog lamps are built into the car, or you would simply replace them. As for hte antanna, you might find a generric electric antenna for around 40 to 75 USD. One of the posted links may have one, one of my favorites is http://www.northernautoparts.com/. The trick might be to find someone who ships overseas. If you can't find one, you could buy it to be delivered to one of us friendly gaguers, then we send it on. If it's insured for more than a nominal amount, you'll still get hit with whatever local customs.
 
Why fanx guys. That's heaps of stuff. Been busy the last few days, but will check all them out now.

I ain't really been to the local auto acessories shop yet, but I'll check there too. Se what they reckon can fit instead.
