Building my own Y wing(s)

I hope so..
Every day i sit in front of the tv with this..
And you don't see it grow..that slow it goes...

i hope i don't destroy it when i spray paint it.

Almost there...
i can see the end of the first side..finally.
after that i need to go back on the top side to add details because there will be 2 different y wings.

they are small but there.

Having painted many models I can assure you the paper is far more durable than you would expect, especially after putting on all the little details. To add the mounting rod for my Y-wing I had to get a dremel out by then end.

That said I tend to prefer brush coating over spray cans in most cases. Simply because spray cans are so inconsisten in quality and limited in color. You could probably get away with using a gray primer thought for the Ywing.

Go light on the first coat, once it dries the paint acts as a protective barrier and it paints like a plastic kit.

Ok..

the first side panel is almost ready ..
and the back of the two y wings are also ready.
from now on i have to watchout which y wing is the red jammer because the details start to be different.

As always, you are doing a FANTASTIC job on the greebles.
Watching your threads (like this one) is always inspiring and thought provoking.
Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Man where do you get the patience, it must take hours to get that kind of detail

It's looking out of this world though, simply fantastic.

And as Rhaven said, your threads are very insipiring.

Cheers,
Elko

Well..
Look at the greebling part in sections..
then it is workable.
when you see it as 1 part is just scary.
And maybe i will find the part i can't rebuild in paper..and the project stops...(hope not)

Looks like they are coming along quite nicely. It must feel good now that you have a whole side complete and are moving on to the next.

:-) yes it helps a lot to see it grow..
but still i have a long way to go..
also i have to watch out that i do the correct details on the ships..

Yes they are ready..
i'm thinking about spraypaint them before attaching to the y wing.
i should have done that to the first side to..

I tried the paint..
but it's a bit shiny..
when adding the dirt...would the shinning go down..or should i look for another spraycan?

and i need to cut the glue-strings...they look like spiderwebs

Wow, that's realy shiny.
Maybe if when you are ready with the rest of the coloring an overall matt varnish can take the shinyness off ?

Just a thought.

The detailing is great btw.

Cheers,
Elko

a few details applyed..
And thinking about a drybrush set.
But i don't know if i use it after this project..
well i still have a few days to think about it :-)

Amazing job on the PAIR of Y-Wings, the dirtying up will not by itself get rid of the gloss, plus the shine will make the "Dirt" not want to stick. a good matte clear will get rid of the shine.
