OK, call me crazy (for starting yet another build thread ;) ) but this one is one of my favourite ships from Buck: the Seymour Class "Belly Bomber" Cargo Sled, most prominently featured in the episodes "Plot to kill a City" and "Return of the Fighting 69". Thanks to various screenshots, johnmiic's fine blueprints and Mark Bradley's invaluable info on the original studio model I was able to create this first WIP sketch in SketchUp.

The most interesting fact about this vessel is that it was a kitbash of two Monogram Cylon Raider model kits. Hartland even used the display stand that came with the kit for detailing. Since I have that model it will be very easy for me to replicate the details and to determine the size of the parts. There is still much to do and I will work on it as time allows; I just want you to know that another Buck ship is on its way, so please stay tuned and be patient (yep, the Viper has top priority! ;) ). :)

I just commented in another threads about the knowledge that members have in this forum, you just proved me right. I have no idea how you find all this stuff out, but your always right, and I'm always amazed. I look forward to this, it looks really cool. Found this, have no idea how accurate it is. This too. I wonder what he's really looking at? :)

Seems to be a nice ship too. I never saw this before - maybe I should take a look at the episodes.
 
@zathros : Yep, that's a CG version of the ship. If recall correctly, that one is for sale at a 3D model shop. It is very good (and expensive).

As for the glances... Don't you see it? Twiki is looking at Buck's helmet. And Buck is looking at Wilma's ... helmet. Obviously they are having a chat about who has the nicer ... "one". ;):D:p

@starbuck : Wow, I thought every TOS BSG fan was a Buck (1979) fan... :rolleyes: I strongly recommend to watch the show again. There is so much fantastic hardware in it, as zathros' picture shows..! ;) And it is still much fun. IMO "Plot" is the best of all episodes because it has that unique comic book feel to it. OK, the "plot" ;) is not that new, but the execution is very entertaining. The villains are fresh and the cast is superb. :)
 
Fantastic!! I always liked this ship, it'll be great to have a model of it. Any idea what scale it will be in......Maybe 1/32??
 
Sorry, at this point I have no idea how big the real thing is. I would estimate the scale of the studio model by about 1:48 according to the Cylon Raider parts, but that's a mere guess. There are some playwood mockups in the hangar bay of the EDD alongside with the Thuderfighters; I'll take a look at them to know more. :)

Just a thought: Since I know the size of the Cylon Raider parts we could stop thinking about the size of the real thing. Instead it would be easier to refer to the scale of the studio model. SOOOOO.... this model could be a 1:2 or 1:1 studio scale model (maybe a 3:4 model, too). :cool:

I have rebuilt the lower section of the Revell-Monogram Cylon Raider in 1:1 scale in order to "transplant" the kit parts used on the original studio model. I didn't copy every detail because much will be achieved later with the texture. These parts will remain unchanged till the CG model looks good enough to be unfolded. That way I ensure that the proportions and the size of the known parts are maintained.

The first application was very revealing. The plane was a tad too big and some proportions had to be changed to make it look decent. Don't look at the wings; they are just stand-ins. The well-known rear view (as it looks now):

The bottom view is very important since it contains almost the complete belly of the Cylon Raider (except for the mounting point; that piece was carefully cut out which made the whole belly shorter by 2.1 cm). I have furthermore adapted the proportions of the rest of the plane to make the belly parts fit. Again, the kitbash parts remained unchanged.

For the record: At this moment the model measures 36 x 27 x 16 cm; a studio-scale kit is possible (even though I prefer a 3:4 kit ;) ). :)
