BSG Raider

Once I finished the Raptor, I figured I'd start on the Raider. It's only 2 pages so I figured it would be quick, but it's turned out to be quite fiddly. The gun was too tiny to be make of just paper so I had to glue a toothpick to the inside to get it to hold together. I like how it's turning out so far though even if it's taking longer than I thought.

I have avoided this one for a while. The build is slightly flimsy and needs some internal support. The two curving forward wings have a tendency to warp. My plan was to construct a flat laminated template and use that to build the raider around itand keep the wings on an even keel. The complex curves tend to show too many white line for retouching. This is where I would have used that white spackle to go over the edges and soften them up. But then I would have a lot of touchup to do. If I were to build it from styrene, I would have used green putty instead. But paper has it own unique quality. Keep up your marathon BSG build coming. See you around in the forums.

A few more progress pics. This one is for sure trickier than the last 2 I did. I endied up putting alot of internal bracing in the center piece and alot of laminated parts in the wing centers to stiffen it up.

Here are the final build pics. No problems with any wing warpage and both points of the wings are exactly paired at the same height. The entire structure actually gained alot of rigidity due to the complex folds and shape of the wing I think. I can hold it by the wing tip and move it about with no problems, zero flex.

I used 65lb card stock for this as well. Seems to be the best balance for what I'm doing.
