BNSF total or partly themed layout

howdy all


been a while since i posted, anyway i live in nyc but may be moving in 1-3 years. i've seen a few BNSF/BN/Sante Fe layouts online by doing searches, but was thinking theres got to be more... Do most people in clubs in the mid/west part of the country have a club roadname and then each members own interest or more like Bruce Carpenter's Chili Sub? (although I don't think thats a club)

Or is it all just hit and miss... Our club has it's own roadname: Empire Valley

It is totaly up to you, a club near here models our area in the steam area, very realisticly, and some people like to create fictional layouts. I personally like to model a particular layout.

The possibilities for model railroading are just about endless. You do what you want to do. If you are interrested in a particular prototype, check out the historical society for that railroad. I'm a Santa Fe fan, and I belong to the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modelers Society

I think there is a society for the BN and maybe including the BNSF. I'm not that interrested in the BNSF post merger.

Hey Diesel,

I think you have chosen a railroad to model with so much diversity. Since you may be leaving NYC someday, I wondered if you might find yourself living along the BNSF someday. Out here along the Washington/BC border there is some very scenic running along the ocean from Bellingham north to Vancouver, BC. In my estimation the most beautiful stretch is the waterfront mainline along White Rock, BC just north of the border. Its interesting to see the BNSF yard in the middle of Vancouver. The line was originally operated by the Great Northern. So you get all of yesterday's smaller railroads and history all rolled up into one giant BNSF when you model the BNSF today. You can tour the line by Amtrak as we once did.

Now that is a great idea. I will do that soon.

In any case I think my question was misunderstood. I meant: are there clubs that specifically run BNSF or former flags.

My home layout is/will be as such.
