Blade Runner -The Spinner

Hi,
some weeks ago I found this nice, detailed model of the Spinner(the police car from Blade Runner). In my opinion Blade Runner is one of the best science fiction movies ever, so I have to build the model immediately. The model is available at papermodelsworld from Daumier Smith(by the way, thank you for the fantastic model!). There was no problem to assemble the model, all parts fit together perfectly. For the windscreen I used transparency film for overhead projectors. Here are some pictures:

loenf, that looks like a computer Render it's so good. Incredible!
 
Did you have an issue with getting the Transparency to stick to the paper? if so what kind of glue did you use for it. I also have this model printed out, and plan on using transparency from an overhead projector for the windshield, but was unsure about glueing

Hi,
I used UHU all purpose adhesiv and for some tricky flaps I used superglue. The advatage of UHU is, you can shift the windshield for a while until its on the right position. Its not possible to stick it with white glue.

UHU Glue is great for sticking different types of materials together. If you live near a Micheal's Crafts Store, they carry it. They also carry Zip Dry. I think Zip Dry is a little more aggressive than UHU's is and gives a stronger bond. I don't know about it's availability elsewhere though.

Not to sure about that. I don't want to nit pic because both are excellent, but the Loenf's model build shows the "circular/conical" sections, behind the wheels, the body lines, at the rear quarter, using horizontal, rather than the "petal" method, and, in my opinion, produces a more convincing model, to be honest, I like Loenf's build better. I always find that the "petal" method, unless used for something that actually uses that, maybe a radar dome, etc, takes away from the shape, as you eyes follow the vertical path towards the center, rather, than with the circular/conical shapes, where you eyes pass over, and see a sphere. The rear quarter, well, there is no reason to even go that route. Just an opinion.

Yeah, but not by much. It is also a lot harder to build, and sometimes, that means doing a model, or not. Every contribution counts.

Also, I had almost the same VW experience, it was easier to drop the engine to due a tune up and adjust the valves, than try and do it with the motor in the car! I made a clutch alignment tool out of a broom stick, and the fastest time, to drop the motor, in my prime, was 18 minutes. I was all arms and elbows!

The Indian Model is, like, Holy Crap!! I gotta see that, I'd love to see progressive build pics. That is incredible! My wife would kill me! :)
 
Yes I like the Indian model too. Just got a bicycle springer front end to use but I have to make it wider to fit. I put the R2D2 away for a while so I should get back at the bike Ill update my page as I go. Bin doing the plastic model stuff. But I have to build this new paper Spinner next.
 
Paper Indian Model, Hmmm!! I have a brand new 20" rear wheel off of a "Stingray Bicycle" the real fat one. I am going to make an "Adult" scooter using it, and a real skinny probably 21" rim for the front end. I may electrify it. I came across an excellent electric wheelchair. I have tried for 2 years to find someone who needs it, but everyone wants to super light weight ones. The motors are exceptionally strong. So, it is an electrified scooter, or small electric car to bring with my when I go camping in my motorhome. If I make a car, it will be a "Model T" or "Bugatti style" unit. :)
 
Is that a Mochet? I too want to build a Velocar, of course, living in Connecticut, the hills make them "difficult". I have made a recumbent trike. Disc brakes, Rear suspension, 24 speeds. It cruises really easily at around 12 m.p.h.. it is my own design. The disc brakes operate independently and make for some incredible awesome turns and spin outs. I still would love to do a Velomobile, and a power assisted pedal version sounds good. I just know because of the nature of my Spinal Cord injury, I would be better off not having extra weight of the components and framing necessary for the "pedal" aspect. This weight would roughly add up to a small gas engine which in reality makes me think I might be able to make a small "Hybrid" type electric vehicle. That's going to take some research, but it does not sound unreachable, I wouldn't by trying to break any world records. Pic of "trike below.

That is an amazing model and an amazing build! I have to say that the Spinner is one of my all time favorite scifi cars. Thanks for sharing.

I like your the trike. You could patten the idea, and try to have a bike company sponsor you in making it available to the general public. Or just start your own company and make custom ones to fit the individual rider.

Either way, you did a great job on it. It looks GREAT!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:
