After finishing the Rhino, and maybe doing a few victory laps here and there.... I've cleared off my bench and started a new project. I need some fire support, as in indirect fire support, artillery.

I'm not a big fan of the regular Basilisk SP guns you typically find for Imperial Guard units. They are servicable models, but they lack that special look... Now, the Armageddon pattern on the other hand, yes, this looks the good ol' M-109 Paladins I used to watch (mostly from the the observation side as steel landed on the range we just bombed... after dropping 500 lbs Mk-82s and 2000 lbs Mk-84, 155mm howitzer shells sound like snap-pop candy though....).

Once again, Eli Patoroch has the design already! I'm not even sure you can find these on Forge World anymore, and they might be out of production. What a shame, they and the Chimera interior detail kits were some of the only kits I'd have bothered with for quite some time...

I found a neat, STUG III inspired, muzzle brake for the plastic Basilisk kits on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2949194 which hopefully will end up having the final build looking very much like the contemporary M109 (and it's Russian counterpart the 2S1). Only because the NLOS looks too high tech for 40K!

Slow going, on the treads. But worth it. Cut lots of smaller parts and pieces to laminate up some (hopefully) decent looking tracks.

After getting the first 10 links done, I called it a night. Looks pretty good though!

June has been a month of 'here and there' work on the track sections... However, this is paying off:

On these barrels, you can see some extra greeblies I've added. I found I printed off another Basilisk (the standard Cadian pattern version) giving me a considerable number of on hand spare parts. I took full advantage of that a few times here, most notably the barrel halves that fit half way inside. I'm assuming extra fuel, as any interal stowage is dedicated to the artillery tube and a few rounds of ready ammo.

Starting on the hull of the Chimera chasis that will carry the Earth Shaker artillery tube into battle. Took some liberties reinforcing the sides and center(ish) line. 3 ply card stock laminations cut to fit inside the folded skin to reinforce and prevent too much warping.

My efforts were supervised by a tech priest of Mars this evening.... I gave him the secret of heat treating A2 tool steel to create the 123 blocks....

Progress has been slow lately... However, as much as it's been crawling, it has been quality progress. I am keeping the interior detail rather basic for now, and just added the walls to the interior without too many greeblies. I saved the greeblies for the main star of the show, the Earthshaker howitzer this vehicle propels.

I modified the barrel from the original design. I've found myself enjoying the look of a hollow tube throughout the gun barrels. That, and I keep the barrel aligned with the other parts of the gun better. I used a paper candy making stick in the breach area to keep those parts aligned as well. This is a rather solid Earthshaker!
