Apollo Saturn V Rocket / Greelt A. Peterusma / 1:48

Hi everyone,

I have finally decided to start a new project... the first since I am part of this community.

Since I was born in 1969, I think it's something that sooner or later I had to face with... the Saturn V rocket. First of all, my thanks to mysteroid (I found this model on their resources) and Greelt A. Peterusma for its creation. The model scale is 1:48.

I choose to build the Saturn V, not because it is easy, but because it is hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of my energies and skills, because that challenge is one that I am willing to accept, one I am unwilling to postpone, and one I intend to win... within this decade...

I have decided to start by completely assembling one of the F1 engines to see possible difficulties and gain experience.

I will keep the community informed of my progress... or my failure, but please, be patient with my timing

Great project! This will be a beast of a model. It's good that it doesn't eat up too much real estate, it fits right in any corner of your living room. It is tall though! I remember that there are super-detailed F1 engines available but I don't know if these are included in the kit you are building. Are yours the super-detailed ones?

In my early teenage years I built and launched the ESTES Model Saturn V 3 stage rocket. It was huge. Everything worked, all 3 stages firing, it was so high in the air, the wind soon took of the edge of the park I was in and pulled out out over Long Island Sound. It it wasn't for the applause from the 50 or so people that had gathered, and the way the applauded, I might have been said, but I consider it a personal best.

I think when you have this finished you will feel the same way. Looking forward to your build.

yes, it will be a huge model... taller than me... I hope my wife doesn't get rid of me to make room for the Saturn The F1s are quite detailed, I don't know if they are super-detailed but have quite a few pipes and wires. I'm about to finish the first F1 so I'll be posting new images soon.

oh, you are gonna have soo much fun building it. i did one a few years ( 9 ) ago. stood taller than my fridge. the engines took the longest to make.

First F1 engine completed... I've had some difficulties mounting the cylinders that form the pipes, but generally speaking, being the first one, I'm pretty happy with the final result.
I hope to improve the result even more with the next four engines, but for now I'm going to start with the thrust structure to have a rest from engines.

I realy like the look of this engine. On its one its alteady a piece of art.

Every single engine on the Saturn V was made by hand and Tig welded together. About 9 years ago, NASA found an used Saturn V rocket. It was meticulously taken apart, and new blueprints were made. It seems that the old ones that are still around were not complete. End result, NASA 3D printed a complete engine with a metal additive 3D printer. They 3D printed the whole engine. When put on the test stand, they were not only able to throttle the engines, but where able to start and stop them. This makes this engine a viable Space Travel engine.
