Am I Insane? Probably… Uhu's Endurance Mega-Upscaled

IMG_1353.JPG First of all: I LOVE Interstellar. I saw it 3 times in theatres and plan on doubling/tripling that now that I own the Blu-Ray. The other day, I was watching a behind-the-scenes about the scale-models used in the making of the film and I was inspired…
Now, this is probably either my best or worst idea ever, so I'm gonna hope for best. I plan on building Uhu02's ENTIRE Endurance model printed at 300%
Unlike my previous build, I'll be adding extra details as well as reinforcing the crap out of the structure to ensure a sturdy model.
And the best news of all is… I've already got a picture to show! This is the beginning work of 1 of the 2 Rangers. I've added an overhead transparency to represent window glass and I've layered a few bits here and there to add detail. The Ranger measures about 10.5 inches from head-to-tail and is here pictured with the Paper-Replika Ranger and the Ranger from my (slightly) upscaled build of Uhu's Endurance. Unfortunately, I won't be able to post finished pics of the Ranger for a while, as I'll need to order some more magnets to use, which will enable the 2 Rangers and Landers to dock with the main Ring Module.

The cool thing about increasing the size, is that you can add even more detail to the model (and really make it POP)!
I will be following this thread.
 
That's the fun thing about this hobby, you can upscale designs until you reach the "Wife is about to divorce you scale" then you know its gone to far! Looking forward to the rest of this build!
 
... or she says, build it in an appropriate scale for me to put my clothes in! ;)
 
Wow! That's big. What scale is that? I like that realistic & functional design of the movie. Can't wait to see the lander at that size.
 
I don't think you're insane at all, not because of the models at least (had to get that one in!!!!) I'd start cutting out the windows now and doing all the greebles on the big one. The bigger you go, the more necessary it becomes, unless you are making it for a kid to play with, then it has to be set up for "Lego dudes' to fit!!! ?)

Definitely not for a kid. Children will not be permitted within a 50 foot radius…:sour:
I definitely plan on greebling the frack out of it! How else is it gonna serve the film justice!? It'll take a helluva lot of paper, but I'm crossing my fingers that the end result'll be worth it. :D
 
Fiiiinally it's time for an update… My apologies for the delay; I've been busy recently what with colds, other commitments, and travel to higher and lower dimensions.
I've finished the Lander (the Ranger is still in need of more grebes and some touch-up work to be presentable). I've added as many layered parts as I can manage without losing my mind (or at least those few bits I've not lost already). Most of this is on the main body, specifically the black and white "ribs" around the center. Additionally, I've added plastic overhead transparencies to the windows to create a more realistic effect. I've also added some detail to the 4 boxy-shaped-things (and yes, that is a technical terms) in the propulsion-doohckies on the corners and inward-facing sides as well as in the shiny black strips on the top sides. Lastly, I modified the engines, as it was brought to my attention by a post on that other place (interpret the italics as you wish, based on your experiences with paper modelers.com) that Uhu's design was slightly inaccurate here, in that his engine nozzles were angled slightly downward. I created a stair step effect here whit some extra light gray card stock to angle the nozzles so that they're aligned properly along the ship's long axis. The finished product measures roughly a foot in length by 8-ish inches across (at its widest point), 4 3/4-ish inches at its thinnest, and 3-ish inches in height. I've no clue as to what scale that makes it, because not enough schematics exist for the ships from the film (muffled sobs). If anyone has any ideas of what this scale is, please do tell me… I'm interested to know (what a nerd, amiright?). Next I'll be starting one of the ring modules, specifically that which connects to the ship's central docking hub. Feel free to feast your eyes on the images below:

Excellent. The ship looks straight as an arrow. Nice crisp lines. I really like this movie, and I feel the ships are awesome. :)

Thats a tricky question… In theory, yes. They are much simpler to build in a larger scale, BUT for someone like me, they're a bit more of a pain in the A$$, because I feel obliged to add as much detail as possible.
