All sorts of Stations

I guess I may as well throw my 25 cents into this one with a pic of the Shawnigan station (and I wouldn't be supprised if that is all its worth):D.
Most of the small town stations on the E&N were replaced with these small structures (shelters?) some years ago and most look like they could use a lot of TLC :(.

You are right about the Cobalt station. The feature that I first noticed was the supports for the eaves. They are very similar to some I have seen here in New England.

Here is a view of the platform canopies at the Danbury Railway Museum, which started out as the Danbury Union Station. You can see the similarity in the supports.

Yep, I remember the most devistating flood waaaay back in the early '03's (a lomg time ago in HO scale!). Didn't know you have doodlebugs there, does it still doodle after the flood? How's the rebuild?
 
oodles and googles of doodlebugs! I have two. One that used to be Union Pacific (now done out in the blue/yellow of Victorian Railways), and a "Baltimore & Ohio", still in the box. (Bachman ones). You can pick them up for $45 AUS here. ($25 US). I got a couple because they are very similar to the Victorian Rialways DERM. Note the freight door, and even the arched window for the loo. I do have an, as yet, unstarted actual VR DERM kit, as pictured. :)

Here's one that's a little different from what's been shown so far. Although now owned by the City of San Dimas (California) and housing the small museums of the Pacific Railroad Society, and the San Dimas Historical Society, this was the San Dimas Santa Fe station. It was built in the 1920's to replace a 19th century wooden station that burned.

At one time the small town of San Dimas actually had three railroads each with its own station: Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, and Pacific Electric.

The ghastly paint color is, according to the people who restored the structure, a true representation of the color Santa Fe originally used on this station.

... and this is my local station at Casino. This is where you would get on and off the train if you came to visit. :):):)

These "things" were trundling through as I drove over the bridge today.

Was up visiting my daughter in the Kansas City area and "discovered this depot in Pleasant Hill that has not been torn down. Was built in 1903 and has obviously had some tender loving care. That's more than I can say for the caboose which apparently was just recently painted, and a poor job they did too.

No marking on the caboose body, but the trucks have "MP" raised on the frame and also Bettendorf. My guess, Missouri Pacific. The trackage is mainline UPRR

6531 at ?station

Hi Woodie I used to train (pun) at the Y M C A at the back of that Station from 1972 to 1980 it was just used for a car park back then.

What, Chris, a line without overhead wie? :D :D :D

Serious: The vertical rectangles in the tower: Are these boarded up windows? (Would have been a great place to watch trains from up there!) And is it a wooden structure or brick? The peeling paint makes it difficult to tell - but it's a great example for weathering, though.

No, I'm home. Have been for a couple of days. Almost have my biological clock adjusted from Aussie to Central Daylight Time again.

Had a great trip except I never was able to make connections with Woodie. I think the place we might have met in Brisbane was undergoing renovations so he didn't make the trip from his hometown. Sorry to have missed him. Did meet Dave Flinn who is also here on the Gauge from time to time and was attending the Rotary International Convention in Brisbane as I was.

Will post some more pixs as I have time.

Here is Gare do Oriente, Lisbon. This one huge intermodal station.
Here is the last floor, where the trains stop. here you can cacth trains to Spain, France, and so on.

Beneath is where people can cath buses and cabs. Underneath is that subway platform. It is really huge!
