If you had asked me what a "Geep" was a scant 6 months ago I would have said,

"You mean like as in Army Jeep or the car right?"

So it wasn't until then did my LHS introduce me to a CN GP 9 in the old yellow and olive green paint did I become interested in their look. Initially my plans were to include both CN and CP locos in my plans. (Cause I'm Canadian Eh!) However, I decided to just stick with the CP stuff instead. I love that old maroon, grey and yellow paint. So, since that time I've purchased four GP's. One Gp 7 and three GP 9's for my so far non existent layout. (Well, it exists in my head for now...) The thing is, I catch myself eyeing up these three bad boys yesterday and even threw them onto my ebay watch list.

So I'm trying to rationalize to myself, why in the H-E-double hockey sticks do I need a fifth or sixth or possibly even seventh Geep for? Seriously! Then I caught myself thinking,

"Well you could score that sweet GP 7 w/ Dyn Brakes # 8425 so that your other GP 7 doesn't feel lonely since you already have three Gp 9's."

Am I bloody serious? A model train...LONELY? God help me. :rolleyes: Some one else please bid on these damn things before I littterly go off my rocker.

Actually the Geep is the best locomotive type to own..You see its at home switching a yard,on a local,going up a branch,pulling a hot freight or pulling a passenger train.
The railroads used their Geeps in yeoman duties..
My C&HV replaced the GP7/9s with GP38-2s ,GP40-2 and a lone GP50.Also rostered is a SW1000 and SW1500.The back bone of the fleet is the GP38-2s
 
I know what you meen, I got that same problem. The best thing to do is to pass right over em' .announce1 Don't even look at them:thumb: They just scream out "Hey Look At Me:wave: " Here I am, Buy Me" There sneeky little buggers, So I take a quick look at them and say thats nice.:D
But as for buying them, I'm broke:D LOL. But seriously you should buy those engines if yu want them that bad.
No meesley little engine is not going to do it all without the help of some more!!

Why do you ask addicts like us such a question? Do you really expect us saying "Don’t buy another engine"?:D :D Hey, if you cannot justify another Geep for your layout, look for something different – after you bought one of those Geeps on ebay for your lonely GP7 sign1 . Besides my addiction to GP 7/9s (yes, you are not alone :wave: ), I LOVE these old Baldwin switchers. You see, there is still hope. You will always find a good reason to buy another engine :D :D .

That's why I sneak them into the garage along with the groceries.

"Babe, I'm just going to put these extra wine coolers and gallons of milk in the garage fridge."

It's worked so far. Last week it was a pair of unmarked Southern Pacific SD45-2T's from Athearn.

Cannonball, good to know the name of the disease. Not that I want to do anything against it. I cannot think of another disease that is so much fun sign1 .
 
If your road is like mine, the smaller geeps are a must!

The Rock Island had 130 GP7s over it's lifetime (and 23 GP 18s and 21 GP9s), far more than the next larger locos (which were 77 GP40s and 68 GP38-2s).

So ... gotta buy them !!! sign1
 
Did BN ever have any GP7/9s? I have a GP40-2, and love the thing. Have an SD70MAC on the way in the executive color scheme, but that is a much larger loco.
 
I've got two GP-7s in CNR colors on the layout. They're older athearns but run very well. As for your question about any more Geeps, perhaps variety is whay you're looking for. I have an FA-1, FB-2 set in CN and a fairbaks morse C-liner in CP. The CP C-liner is an execptional model with an excellent drive.
 
tetters, if you have your layout "planned", then address your locomotive acquisitions to your specific area. CP, at that time, were buying locomotives from GMD, CLC and MLW, all in roughtly the same power class. The GPs lasted longest, but during the grey/maroon era were mainly used on the Prairies. MLWs (C424s) were used in Ontario and points east, and the CLC units were all in the BC interior. Many GPs were rebuilt into GP9Us, used in switching and hump duties and on branchlines well into the 90s.

Just to set the record straight. I started this thread as joke. I probably won't buy anymore. (...well maybe just one more...) I'm just having some fun with you all. Thanks for all of the replies gents. You've been great.
