i have for years seen pix of oddball prototype rr but i have become a believer on way home from work road runs next to up main line for 4 or 5 miles on that stretch i saw a purple loco with hlcx (helm financial) markings two tone paint purple and gray not as bad looking as it sounds so now i think i will go out to shop and paint a mike lime green.

In the 60s, one of the Florida RRs (ACL, I think) had ppurple diesels. Revell made a model of one.
I think one of the British companies has puple (or lilac) on theirs.
and there is debate about whether British Railways in 1948-1950 painted a steamer in purple when they were looking for a corporate paint scheme. They did several shades of blue and used a blue for a while.
I've had a hi-cube boxcar for about 30 years that I was going to paint purple. It's still black and the purple was used on some rock work!
