Greetings, Greetings Fellow Modelers. I am a 70 year old newbie to the site. I live in Fairborn, Ohio and am a disabled Navy Viet-Vet. I've made my own, TOS Trek, original Lost in Space, "V" props. I started making my own props when "The Making of Star Trek" 1st came out! I'll let You all figure out how long I've been doing this, :) I came here at the suggestion of a friend named Rhavven Black, because I wanted a Galactica 80 Laser Derringer to go with my classic BG outfit. Now that I'm retired and on disability, I have the time to enjoy making cardstock items, like my Friend Scott has in his "Fiddlers' Green site. I'm looking forward to building and interacting with You all. Cheers,

Hello and welcome to Zealot! Thank you once again for accepting my invitation. You have come to the right place for all things paper & cardstock (and other mediums), as well as model building as a whole, and to build and hone your skills. We have many members who are into SCI-FI (especially Star Trek and BSG). So, I hope that you feel at home here.

If you have any photos of your old models, by all means, please post photos of your work. You can post photos directly from your computer to the thread without the need of a photo hosting site.

When you start a new project, I would like to invite you to post build threads of your projects. Build threads are a great way to show off your skills and techniques, as well as to highlight problem areas that you may need help with or show how you were able to solve said problem.

So, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice. Please feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).

Once again, welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy yourself here. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hi Folks! Thanks for the warm greetings. I'd love to show some of my builds, if I still had them. My ex who deceased about a year ago destroyed them when I divorced her. I'm starting over from scratch. As I make them, I shall send in pics of my build.
One of my first build is going to be the Lasers from "The Cage", the earliest of Starfleet's weapons. My 1st builds were the Star Trek Tech Manual Phasers. People may condemn them for their inaccuracies, but I told people: "Remember, We had variations on our real life weapons. Look at the ariations on the Springfield 1903 Rifle!"

I am sorry to hear that. However, I know that feeling all too well. When I left my last ex and moved back to the US, she destroyed my entire collection as well. The good thing about that was, it gave me the opportunity to rebuild everything with all of the upgrades and greebling that i wanted to in the first place, but had not.

I am looking forward to seeing what all you build! I wish you the very best of luck with all of it!

I too am sorry to hear about the destruction of your models. Ah well. As Rhaven said, this could be a good opportunity to rebuild and improve them with your current knowledge.

I am the guy behind the Galactica and Buck Rogers gun models. The Cylon rifle is still on my desk and I hope to tackle it soon. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to post them.

Wow!!!! Thank You both for the welcome. I've got a resin cast BG Blaster, but I had at one time the Colonial rifle and still have pics somewhere with a yardstick beside it. It wouldn't be too hard to duplicate one out of cardstock and a little plastic or wood. Revelle-Fan ( I'm a Revelle fan too, LOL), Whee You the one who did the G 80 Laser Derringer? That and the rifle are the only two BG weapons that I need. I intend to do the BR gun as well. I wanna do the BR Dress uniform again and this time have an accurate pistol in my sash. Thank You for Your work, Sir.
Rhaven Blaack, What can I say, my ol' Friend. You've been a life saver to me. I am grateful. afor all the help and advice You've given me elsewhere.!

Yes, I am. There are only one or two others I know of who made the Cylon rifle but all the other BSG and Buck Rogers paper props come from me (in co-op with Rhaven). The props started as mere side projects to shorten the wait between more complex models. The Colonial rifle is on my todo list but I have to finish the many models which already have been begun. The workload is almost unbearing and I cannot tackle a new project for the time being.

Now that I'm the age, Commander Vitruvius of the original Battlestar "Prometheus" has always supposed to be, My Buddy, Paul Rotter is now doing Cain, I can be his father Vitruvius and Vitruvius was always meant to carry a Cylon sword he won in combat, hand to hand. Now I WILL start carrying one. Sheathed of course.

I have, somewhere around here or in storage, Revell-Fan, the plans that I made off of the actual Colonial Rifle. It is NOT the elongated colonial pistol we see in fandom. Not that I don't like it. They were 1st printed in Susan J. Paxton's "Anomaly" fanzine in the mid 90'z. There are also pics of me holding the rifle and of the interior of same. They were taken by a Friend of mine, George who ran the Kinko's in Bloomington-Normal. I was a M.A. student there at Il State U in the 90s there. If I find them, I'll mail You a copy. I look forward to Your work, my Friend.

Not on me currently. It was also used by the Eastern Alliance types when they escaped from the Brig on the Galactica, R.F. I'll look and see after I get done with my errands.
If You are working on the colonial Carbine ( as I call it) Please put me down for one.

Unfortunately, when the toy was made, the scope was inverted.

Ah, now I understand. I know what you mean. It is just pretty weird that it is called "Colonial rifle" because it was a rifle of the Eastern Alliance which only technically were of Colonial origins. :)

Raven, That IS the Colonial Rifle!!!!!!! I talked with the fellow who designed it and He said that it WAS the Colonial Rifle. BTW, I'm trying. That was my plan and picture that George took of it. I still remember how the original was made. Larsen's productions ha d a habit of reusing props much in the same way Irwin Allen did. The above rifle was designed very shortly after the show became a weekly. It was used by the Eastern Alliance because by the time that particular show was filmed the prop budget had been cut drastically! I got that from Glen Larsen himself at the "30 Yahren Reunion Con". As You can see, the plans are about 7/8th full size.
