1:21 scale Millennium Falcon (hopefully)

Ok guys, I'm fairly new here and haven't done a build yet so... here goes.

When I have finished my current project I'll be attempting to build the Millennium Falcon using Shunichi Makino's templates upscaled to 285% and Uhu02's falcon cockpit downscaled to 39%. I'm also going to try getting the gunner seats in there too.

I've been playing around with the scales involved and doing rough builds of the cockpit outer shells to get the sizing right.

After a little convincing (You know who you are Claphands) I have now agreed to increase the scale from 1/35 to 1/21.
The reasoning can be seen on the first 2 pages of this thread.

Thank you for link xaero892. Great reference of 32" Flacon.

It will be big. I will do it in little smaller scale 1:48 to match my (almost done) X-wing and (future) Tie figter. You can always hang it on the wall to save some space (if so, you do not have to spend too much time on bootom part when building).

I've just been trying out some techniques to get the damage more realistic and I think this gouge looks quite good.
I layered a few bits of card and then scraped at it with an old scalpel blade.

I only had a black marker to hand for burn marks but on the actual model a friend is loaning me his weathering kit.

Looks promising. On some places it looks too hairy to me. I would try to paint it with glue. It could glue the hairs back. Just a thought, maybe it will not work.

I thought the same thing about the hairyness. Glueing it sounds like a good idea, I'll try that.
It was just a quick test of the idea anyway but all advice is greatly appreciated.

You could push those hairs back with glue, the liquid kid. Tamiya makes some great stuff. Clear flat paint would work too. Great gouges though.

You could sand it with "000" sand paper too. I think it looks very authentic.

I have a question for the admin guys.

I have been chatting with the 2 gents who own my local comic book store where my Sulaco model is currently hanging. They are very excited about the upcoming Falcon build and have asked 2 things.

First they would like to hang it from the ceiling, just like the Sulaco is. (Which I don't see a problem with)

Secondly they were wondering if it would be possible to auction it off for charity?

I personally would be happy to say yes, as it would benefit a good cause, but I feel the decision lies with the original designers.

Are they both on this forum?
Would it be worth contacting them?
Or should I just tell the guys it's a no?

I've also read through an old thread about copyright and the sale of models but there was no mention about auctioning for charity. Would the same laws apply? I would be getting no payment, so I'm not sure.

If any of you guys could help me with this I would be most grateful.

@xaero892 They would be auctioning off a model that you built, not the kit that someone else designed. What is auctioned off is your material, time, effort, and energy of building that model. So there is really not problem with such.
