    Door in the way ???

The door that is giving me problems is for a cold cellar. It may get used a couple times a week. I will give the swing bridge some thought and no there is not enough room on one side of the door for a turn around. My only other option is to cut two holes in the concrete and run the train...

    Door in the way ???

I think it would be much easier to make a drop in , there will be no ducking my wife would not be impressed if she had to duck to get into the cold cellar . Pocket door would not help because it is an issue of using the door not a space problem. I will do another search maybe I can find...

    Door in the way ???

I have decided that an around the room layout would offer a lot more layout than what I was doing (12X5 layout) , my only problem is I have a door along the one wall . How have people tackled this problem ? I was thinking of a simple liftout with dowels to keep it in place but I would...

    Digitrax Zephyr Help

A couple quick questions. If you use the DC jumper option for an add on throttle do you actually plug the DC trasformer into an AC outlet like you would for normal use ? I know that may sound like a stupid question but it does not mention plugging in the DC unit into the wall. Question #2...

Foam stacking for mountains and hills

I have read that you can simply cover the foam with paint were the ground cover will be and use plaster only were you want the rocks exposed. This will make it easy for planting trees and moving them around to get the desired look. Has anyone tried this method? Thanks Tim

    Hey Tim K

Hi Lester and gang. All is going well here just very busy with family and work. We have made some very good progress with the layout. Bench work is finished (for now:thumb: ) and about 75% of the track is temporarily down. We even built a foam mountain that is about nine feet long , we...

Foam stacking for mountains and hills

When using joint compound can it be applied directly to the foam ? I am building a mountain that has a path cut right through it so it has a lot of rock on both sides of the track , I will need a lot of compound and I have never done this before. So any help or suggestions are apreciated...

Foam stacking for mountains and hills

Do you use liquid nails to glue the stacks of foam together ? How does it hold up while shaping and sanding? Is plaster the best for the rock on the mountains ? Thanks Tim K

    It's a hit

I finally set up a fairly large oval today so my kids (and me ) could have a train to run while we are planning our layout and we are having a lot of fun. I am very impressed with the Walthers Train line kit the engine runs very smooth and the control is also very good from dead slow to full...

    Track Testing

What Engine do you use to test your layout to make sure the track is free of problems , I have read that some engines were fussier than others and thought I might pick one up just for testing my layout. Thanks Tim K

    Track planning

Thanks GEC that looks very good and rather close to my original idea. We have now finish the construction of the base for the layout and after having nightmares about the track radius being to small and my children starring at their failed father I decided to add on to both ends. So what I...
