Again, another newbie question: I have been to a couple of Home Depots here in CA and I did not find any of the blue/pink stuff. All they had was white. Is this the same material? I remember reading somewhere that in CA they don't carry the blue/pink. Anyone know about this?
Thanks,
Stan
I just checked DPM and really liked theirs. I've also spent some time looking at the Walthers. When you say they are easy to put together, any differences between the amount of skill between them? Thanks

What companies make the best buildings for HO? (I'm a beginner so if I need to clarify, please let me know.) I'm still trying to decide what era to do but I'm thinking of the 40's -50's. My track will be approx. 6X10

Thanks so much for the information!! When I started thinking about doing a RR a couple of months ago, I didn't realize all that went into it. I am doing a lot of reading, here especially, as well as the standard books. I'll definitely be checking in with all of you...
Thanks Steve for the comments.
Here's what I'm thinking: I'm looking at the layout as if the "8" were on its side. On the left lower corner would be some sort of mountain pass. (I'm thinking of eliminating the turnout in the left circle.) On the far left would maybe be a bridge (just an...
What do you guys think of this set-up? I know that it would restrict some creativity but what about this versus buy track individually, etc.? Any wisdom you could share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Stan

Like everyone else said, the streets are awesome. How did you make them. Am new to the hobby and any wisdom you can give would be appreciated.

I am not planning on making this an era sensitive railroad. It's just going to be out of my own imagination. I have seen some incredible layouts based on location and eras. However, this is only going to be for my pleasure. All I need is to find out what type of locomotives go with these...
Being a newbie I thought I could ask this question without getting too many flames! LOL
I think I've decided to use a Pullman theme on my new HO railroad. Please direct me to the type of loco that would go along with it. (This probbly is a dumb question but. . .)
Thanks,
Stan
Thanks everyone for your input. I have been doing a lot of reading and will probably go with the Zepher setup. One of the hobby stores I haunt has quite a few back issues. I'll check on that issue.
Thanks again.
Stan:)
Sorry if this has been discussed but I couldn't find anything. Just starting out and have been told to get a good DCC. Can anyone suggest a "good one"? Am going to be using HO with at most 2 trains right away.

What does everyone think of doing model railroading on a computer? I know it's not hands on, etc. but is it better to jump right in on a real mrr or invest in a program? (Hopefully this doesn't sound like a newbie (which I am, LOL) question.
