    beginner:how to connect wires

In HO, you can buy rail joiners with wires soldered to them - then you can simply attach them to your track in the usual way and run the wires to your power pack. And if you aren't afraid of a soldering iron, you can simply solder wire to the bottom of rail joiners and viola!

    What do you think?

Here is a nifty free picture utility that you can resize pictures with, among other things: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/967963863/1 Irfan View - I highly recomend it.

    Tight radius diesel

E gads! 10-12 inch radius? You should be in N-scale not HO! Yes, a two axle loco like the Botchmann 44 -tonner would probably work and nothing longer than 40' box cars.

    Tool to cut Atlas Flextrack

Ya ya! Xuron or Dremel with cutoff disk... wear eye protection cause those discs have a way of breaking apart.

    Dependable Locomotive

Yeah, that is what I've heard - problem is with P1k is there aren't many choices - I have never bought any because they don't make any which are appropriate for the Rio Grande - especially post 1970 Rio Grande. I realize they painted their F3 for black Rio Grande, but it isn't the correct...

    Dependable Locomotive

You've got Proto 2000 and KATO. I can't recommend Bachman for many reasons, but the other obvious answers are: -Atlas (duh!) -Athearn Genesis -Stewart -Athearn RTR series I don't own any Proto 1000, but reviews say they are very smooth which is nice for an economicl loco. Stewart F units are...

    Atlas News

Happy Days for GE fans! But Rio Grande owned no GE's after the 1960's - so I'm still pining away for an updated HQ tunnel motor!

    Your Favorite HO Scale Manufacturer?

That was my first thought - I mean Lionel has made only a couple engines in all time. They ducked in and ducked out years ago with a GP30, and now they ducked in with a steam engine and recently quit HO a second time. Yeah, but for polls you need to narrow down to the major players...

    Your Favorite HO Scale Manufacturer?

You should remove Lionel from the HO poll and replace it with Intermountain... Lionel is only marginal in the HO scale - Intermountain is major! For me, it's kind of a toss up between Atlas and Athearn because I love the Genesis freight car and my new RTR SD50's are nice too. I'll give the...

    HO Beercar website

I didn't see the Eel River 60' PC&F beer cars - they are the only ones I have. Coors beer to be exact.

    Removing Paint From A Caboose

Brake fluid, Pine Sol and some commercial products like Chamelion are used. It's always good to ask because some methods can ruin a plastic shell or make them brittle.

    Passenger car advice needed

Typically, modular layout curves are minimum 24-inches and often much larger (for the more recently built mod layouts). I designed and helped build the corner modules for the Syracuse CNYMOD layout displayed in Springfield and Syracuse shows. Those have 36-inch minimum radius curves. I was at...

    Passenger car advice needed

Rus is right about the Athearn heavey weights and MDC harrimans. They are "shorty" cars - IOW, they are not scale models of real cars, but short models made to approximate the "look" of real cars - shortened to work on sharp curves on small train sets. Russ's suggestions are very good about...

Beware Of No Parts For Your Ready To Roll Athearn Cars

Good advice from Larry, As far as RTR cars go, most of them have been available in kits. Surely they have parts from the kits? If not, then a visit to your local train show should yield you either parts or maybe you could pick up a few kits cheap to supply yourself with some spare parts...

Ttx Rare Gunderson Box Car Ho Scale Athearn Genesis

Yeah, While I never paid close to MSRP, I really could have saved a good chunk on those Genesis F units. I used to pre-order loco's regularly with MB Klein, something that disenfranchised me with my LHS when he found out by reading it on the forums. So I guess I won't be looking at the used...

    Stewart Hobbies has been sold

Very true! I hope Steve is at least on the payroll of Bowser now as a p-t consultant. This often happens when people retire from f-t work. Amen that Stewart excaped Horizon! I'm not liking what happened to Athearn since Horizon took over. They've locked out many hobby outlets and the...

    Passenger car advice needed

I'm pretty sure the IHC cars have "talgo" truck mounted couplers, as is usually the case with plastic passenger cars, especially full-length cars (85' typically). As for your question about couplers via body mount: Part of the answer lies in what minimum curve radii you are using. Traditional...

    Passenger car advice needed

I'll start off by saying I have been in the hobby for years, but haven't purchased from many/most of the plastic passenger car lines - only Concor and Walthers. Right now I own a brass California Zephyr made by Kumata and imported by Challenger/High Country Brass/Oriental Ltd (all the same cars...
