Thank you! Thinking of having a go at one of your TIE variations next maybe, but must stay disciplined and finish this first before making a final decision on what's next

Nooooooooooo! ... ... ... Well ... maybe one day! I had been eyeing up the 2001 space station as well over the last few weeks but have decided my skills aren't there yet, but again, perhaps one day. It does look amazing!

Instrument Truss: I'm back! Did some work at the weekend ... I previously posted a picture of the instrument truss as printed from the file. The gaps between the latticework are filled in with grey to reduce the effect. However, having been advised by Zathros (I listen to you Zathros ;)) to...

Remembering 2024 through "Model of Merit".

Congratulations to all the winners! It's great to see so many absolutely superb models and look at the build threads to see how they grew and evolved. And they motivate us mere mortals wherever we are on our modelling journeys to stretch ourselves and strive to improve in our own endeavours...

Instruments and Instrument Truss: Here are all the instruments for the opposite side to the RTG. They look reasonably sized don't they? They're not! Most are small and some are very small! :) This is the Cosmic Ray Subsystem. The underneath flaps needed a tighter angle in order for the back...

I've put the trusses on pause for a few days while I experiment with strengthening them all with either Superglue (UK name for Crazy Glue I think?) or the UV-activated glue, and then cover with matte black paint or matte varnish (ordered, arrives in a few days), as advised by you all above...

Fab! My first bottle of this arrived this afternoon - put it straight to good use repairing a broken strut on one of the instruments. Worked perfectly, thanks. I will look to apply it to all the struts on the model before it's finished. As it dries glossy, is there any way to make it matte...

Now to the most difficult section so far ... the Trusses! Does anyone know anyone who has built this model before, who I could ask a little advice from? I've been wrestling with the 2 parts of the Truss that hold the magnetometer and the RTG for hours now, including printing off double sized...

Radio-isotope Thermoelectric Generator: Folding and gluing the fins is fun! Requires patience - improvising clamping along their length off the end of the cutting matt/table! Hint: Folding the valley folds fully before gluing makes it easier to access the mountain folds which you glue together...

Main bus: Main bus piece cut out, folded, ready to glue. An old Lego piece comes to my aid helping to ensure I glue the sides up vertically. Main bus all glued up including upper fuel tank end.

Thanks for the tip @zathros I'll look into that. I think it would help with the other support trusses, two of which I'm wrestling with at the moment! I never even knew those UV activated adhesives existed!

Reflector structure: Shaped the reflector shallow cone. It was easier to colour the insides of the tripod legs and around all the relevant edges black before gluing the shallow cone onto the back. Added the low gain antenna. Decided I ought to have coloured the back side of it black with a...

Thanks very much. According to J. Leslie's site where I found it (http://jleslie48.com/gallery_models_postapollo.html) it's only difficulty 5/10, but certainly hard enough for me at the moment, especially trying to do it justice and not just rush it through.

Wow, thanks for the encouragement Dan and Mijob - means a lot, especially as I'm a bit of a novice!

Feed horn: Used progressively smaller diameter metal cylinders and tweezers to roll the horn as tightly as I could. This part would be much easier to make with paper rather than card. Perhaps I did something wrong, but curled to the dotted line it's a bit small for the circle where it goes (I...

Gluing support base ring to underside of HGA dish: Dry run positioning the HGA on the support base reading for gluing. My new circle former is perfect for sitting in the dish to help apply even pressure while the glue sets. It's like piping icing applying the glue (Anita's PVA Tacky Glue) :)...

Gluing support base ring to support base white side: How to ensure the support base ring is as circular as I can make it? What I need is something that will apply even pressure outwards around the whole ring. So I thought of a strip of thin plastic curled up should be fairly springy, wanting to...

Although NASA's website seems to have gone "mobile-native", there is, if you can bear to search, a lot of excellent information still available. I came across this on my surfing travels yesterday and thought it probably helps to answer why they're still going ...

My first "live" build thread! (and my first thread on a forum for a long time so please bear with me while I get the hang of this :) ) After 20 years away from this hobby I'm getting back into things (See Introduction). After having done an R2D2 and mini X-Wing (which I'll post the build of...
