What do I put under the track?

i'm going to try something new for road bed. i'm using the 1/2" plywood then plastic insulating foam that is used under a floating laminate flooring. Its sound proof, waterproof and u can cut it to any width u need. Its thickness is about 1/8". Then paint it with speckle paint and nail or glue...

    Bridge Traffic

So your bridge traffic will come from a hidden staging yard at one point and out to another hidden staging yard at the other end of your layout. Or if u don't have a hidden staging yard than u use the old hand disappearing act.:D Thats what i got to do on my plan is add two hidden staging...

    Track Levelling...

i think i will check that gradient level out. i have a variety of bubble levels from 6" to 4' in length plus the string one. i won't be making any helixes but i do have a few grades to make. Lets see, a 1/4" rise over 12" = 2 % grade. Dang where's that calculator.

    Track Levelling...

Thanks Steve. i thought maybe the grade measuring device was like a 6" level with gradients on it. Looks like your right into your layout. Looks good :). i like the looks of the On3 cars. This year i too have a small On3 Train Set. The cars are all decorated and lighted on the inside. i'm still...

    hello i'm new

My sentiments too. if u only put a plexiglass edge the cats will still go over and farther to drop onto the layout. i have cats and for my new layout i'm trying to decide if i should try the plexi edge or build a glass sliding door and wall to the train room. The cats don't bother the layout...

    Track Levelling...

Steve how does the grade indicator work and what type is it (electronic)? Is there a minimum lenth and slope that it can only start from? For example would it measure the grade for a helix.

    hello i'm new

Hi welcome to the Gauge.:D For a suggestion, U could try Home Depot or a place that sells plexi glass or a clear plastic type sheet. U could use clear silcon glue or plastic glue to put it together. U can preorder the size of sheets or cut your own.:)

    Peco Turnout machines

My old layout i had over 50 under table atlas switch machines and 2 peco curved switches. i did cut the big hole. found it easier to work with but i like the other ideas. One thing i found to make it easier and quicker, i used duck tape under the table to hold stuff while i checked it out. When...

Kids are a great excuse to get back into trains...advice needed

Hi Steve ! This year my partner bought a Xmas train set. i found out that it is made by Bachmann. Its an On3 engine. Which means its an O scale set that runs on HO track. The track that comes with the set is the EZ- track. i don't think it would be a problem set up on a rug, as long as it isn't...

    Using real sand/dirt for scenicing

i never heard of the electrolysis idea before, neat:) But i have used potted soil sifting it through three different seives. i also use pool filter dust mixed with dry pigment color. This is really inexpensive but very dangerous to mix (must use a painters mask). Once on the layout its okay. U...

For the first time, there is going to be a train running under the tree. This year my partner, bless her soul, purchased the Thomas Kinkade Christmas Express, from the Bradford Exchange.
