    I agree Josh... I dont have many options and wil try 20 get the grade down to about 5% and remove some of the basematerial (Foam) and still keep the length of the 9 inch tressles...     I did get a M1B 2-8-4 up it...It wasn't pretty but it was pulling a big tender and two pretty heavy cars... I am thinking if a had a 3 truck shay and 3 skeleton log cars it might go better...I am going to go sleep on it.It is 1:30AM here on the east coast... Thanks for the intput and I love some...

    Yes the inclines leading to the gorge go up 8 inches in 8 feet an it is just the inside loop... Ths loop will be connected to the inside loop of the mainline with a cross over in the front of the layout so it will be a twice around and I conected thethe double mainline track with a double...

    I got my M1B up it... I wasn't easy...more like the little train that could.It was pulling 2 cars... Would a Shay have more pullining power than my 2-8-4.. I would think the shay would since all the wheels are geared drivers (even the tender).... the 8.3% incline is also a 24 radius
