Recommendations on: Turnouts, switch motors, etc.

Well I wish I had known that before I bought 13 of them. :( Guess I'll just have to make em work. Can't just flush $75.00 away. Whats bad about them. I suppose I shouldn't have tried to cut corners and went with the switch tenders. I guess you can't expect a whole lot for 6 bucks each either...

    Rolling stock

My 12 pack of Accurail hoppers came in today and by the end of next week I should have about 14 Accurail box cars and seven Branchline boxcars in. I have to decal half of the Accurails as they are "data only" models. Hope they are as nice as I am hearing.

Don't see to many of these anymore...

I couldn't get the striped decals on the nose for my life so I decided to paint them on. I ordered some stuff to make the decals less stiff and stick better. I have about 10 boxcars to decal so I need to get this worked out. I hope the box cars turn out better. The F unit is just an old Bachman...

I was trying to make a nice "Zebra" paint scheme C&O. I'm not to good at the customizing. Wish the decals didn't look like decals but they have been dullcoted so oh well.

To polish or not to polish, that is the question:

I had some old brass track I passed off a few weeks ago. Fastest way for me to clean it, was with a sanding block and 400 grit. Anything else nonautomated with the ammount of track your talking about will take a long, long, time. A few swipes with the sanding block and your golden. I tried a...

    Rolling stock

I'm glad to hear the good comments. Especially since I have already made my purchase. I'm not a "rivet counter" by far. I want my stuff to look good but I don't want to see dollar signs everytime I look at my layout either. I was just trying to find something slightly nicer than average, and...

Who or What Got You Started?

**************Back from the Dead****************It's tough to give all the credit to one person for me. My father works for CSX, so does my uncle, my grandfather on my dads side retired from C&O and his father was a conductor for C&O, my grandfather on my moms side was an engineer for Conrail...

    P2K Pere Marquette E7

Does anyone here have a P2K Pere Marquette / C&O E7? I just recieved mine and the color doesent look right to me. The yellow looks more like a buttermilk color rather than the typical yellow I am used to seeing on my other C&O equipment. Didn't know if this was correct as all I can find are B&W...

I thought they looked nice. So I decided to place the order. 12 C&O 55 ton 2 bay hoppers & 12 Accurail coal loads, 2- AAR 40' Mineral Red Data only, 2- PD 40' Mineral Red Data only, and 2- 50' combo door riveted Data Only Red oxide. That should be enough to get me goin. I have to head over to...

    Rolling stock

I am on a quest to start a new fleet of rolling stock. While I can appreciate the higher quality of manufactures like Intermountain and Kadee, I simply could never afford to build an entire fleet at $25-$28.00 a piece. So shopping around and having the hardest time locating moderate quality C&O...

    Weathering Some Locomotives

I soooo love that diorama. I read the whole thread. The Locos look really great. :thumb: I am working on a few myself... lets just say no one shall ever see the first on I tried. Went way overboard. Good thing it was just a broken Tyco F7 I picked up for a buck.

    Power for Turnouts

I'm not real sure on this and was curious myself because my old layout had manual switches. I plan to run my new turnouts, wye's, etc. from a 9v plug in transformer to a fused distribution panel, to toggle switches, then to the switch motors. Probably start a small fire to. :D J/K. Maybe one of...

Ha Ha :D That seriusly is a good idea though. Just put up a piece of scrap 2x4until I get in the habbit of ducking down and then remove it.

    Walk / duck under.....

I was just curious because my new layout is "U" shaped with three sides against the wall. I was thinking of maybe running a second indepent oval around the top of the hillside I'm planning then add a nice bridge of some sort to span over the walk way into the "U" (approx 29"). I think it would...
