    Too soft insulating track joiners

Mark's idea would work with 2 part epoxy I would think . You could simply use styrene to plug the gap . NEIL

Looking for kitbashes of Walthers Coal Mines!

For my NRM , I simply added a few more overhead conveyors ( covered ones ) with appropriate supports . I haven't placed the mine yet so I don't have pics to post , but for me , some weathering ( rust , flat black ) and conveyors give at new look at little additional cost . I had thought of...

    Railroad Done..Now What?

It seems to me that one thing we can all do when ' finished ' is go back over everything and add details , change existing ones . One 'fer instance' , if you have a road or highway , is to add a work crew or repair crew .Street scenes could have people moved all over the place , involved in...

    Railroad Done..Now What?

The DCC issue can be a touchy one . I remember being referred to a MRR Club in Michigan as to info on a specific question regarding a steel mill . I happened to mention something about Digitrax and it was like waving a red flag . Wow, what an attitude ...haven't heard from them since . We don't...

    Railroad Done..Now What?

After a long layoff , Ive been back into this just over a year . Of the layouts that I've seen , two LARGE ones had been finished by their owners ( indivuals , not clubs ) . They were 8 or 10 years in the making . Interestingly , after being finished , both guys tore out a sizeable section of...

    Securing track to benchwork?

Bob , you didn't say what the sub-roadbed is . I still like Homasote for various reasons ...one of which it takes spikes easily and firmly . No hammering required , I simply push the spike in ( code 100 rail ) and set it to the level of the tie with the needle nose pliers . Cork sub-roadbed is a...

    Need historical help

I was going to suggest looking up the CNsig , Val , as they would probably be privy to that technical stuff . There is a Yahoo Groups CPRsig ...must be a CNsig around somewhere . I live near Windsor , but didn't pay much attention to the passenger service ( still don't ) ....freight gets my...

Looking to model 1955-1965 and need some help...

Bob , I'm working the time period you have suggested and agree with Jim about freelancing . Most onlookers will not know the difference . You will know, but can always explain things if need be . I have taken many liberties with my railroad because there are certain things I want , so I tweak...

    Banged-Up Metal

Charles , the old tried and true ' hot screwdriver ' method is as good as any with styrene. Practice on some scrap pieces first of course , to get a feel for it . If doing a gon , work from the inside of the car . A flat screwdriver works best . Don't use a flame on the plastic . NEIL

    Is Model Railroader lagging?

I used to subscribe to MR but haven't for several years .....I pick and choose the issues that I want from my LHS. I don't have any major gripe but I do think it has gone in a direction that I have marginal interest in . To each his own but I think there are better and more informative magazines...

    Yikes! Trees!!

I've heard of Joe Pye Weed , and seen pictures but have not seen it locally or ever used it . I think sedum is hard to beat for HO but again , not easy to find growing wild in my area . Neighbours get a bit p.o'ed if you go rooting through their gardens looking for sedum . Neil

    Canadian Steel Mill

The timeframe is the late 50's , so the Fitz was safely above water at that point . No fish or algae , but I will be building a Hulett ore unloader and have a dock scene with the Fitz unloading a shipment of taconite . NEIL

    Canadian Steel Mill

Plaster Clth? Good, Bad, Or Ugly?

I had several people tell me about medical suppliy stores , but when I checked that out , they came in 3 or 4 inch widths ....not suitable . I bit the bullet and got mine ( Woodland Scenics ) from my LHS . I had to buy about 8 rolls , and yes they were fairly expensive but the widths of plaster...
