    Just getting started

Good luck with the new layout. Age and experience can be a good thing! Not to mention a few good friends to ask for advice!

    Maximum radius

On my last layout, I had 33" radius everywhere that was visible, and even a 40" radius on a couple of spots. The tigtest hidden was 23", in the lower spiral tunnel. It was even on a 2.2% grade.

    DCC just can't choose

I'd go with the Super Chief for sure. You might not think you will ever need all that it has to offer, but you might suprise yourself, I did!

Mike Hagarty's N scale 'Mountain Sub'

-The old layout was 26'x26', but it was double deck, about 400' of mainline. -It is DCC, I use a DigiTrax Super Chief system. -Other than the grain elevator, there will be a large yard with lots of industrial switching. The staging yards may have some industry on the too, so they will be a...

Mike Hagarty's N scale 'Mountain Sub'

The layout is in a basement 33'x32' with a 8'x8' bump out. It is going to be a single deck point to point with a 6 track staging yard at each end, and a large yard in the middle. The staging yards will be double ended and the tracks should be 16-18' long each. Most of the layout will be built on...

Mike Hagarty's N scale 'Mountain Sub'

It's time to start a thread to show the progress of the new layout. It will be called the Mountain Subdivision, set in the Canadian Rockies, well at least most of it will be. I would like to have a grain elevator module, so I might go a bit to the east with half the layout! Here the first...

    My layout progress

Looks great, as far as the DigiTrax system goes, I would go with the Chief. It has way more features that you might think you will need right now, but believe me, as you get more and more locomotives and start mixing different brands with each other, lots of those features will be very handy...

    Layout Support

What does everyone use to support your layouts? I just built a combination of shelves and legs for my last layout, but this one is going to be modular, so I'm looking for some different ideas. Thanks in advance!

    I'm back!

I got most of the basement drywalled last night, this time, I'm doing that 1st! Since I'm only doing a single level layout, the wall will be the back drop. After it's all done, I'll paint the walls sky blue, and paint scenery on that.

    I'm back!

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've posted. I have checked in once and a while, but been very busy with moving and getting the new place all finished. Now that that's all done, it's time to start planning the new layout! I've started building the benchwork for the main yard/staging...

    Clean slate...

Here is one idea I'm thinking of. It is a simple point to point, but the staging yards are beside each other, and could be finished as a real working yard, complete with a switcher crew, wye, engine facility and some industrial. -There is a paper mill west of the staging yard also, a switcher...

    Clean slate...

I'll make a work bench somewhere, and the walls are just framed and insulated, no drywall. I don't plan on being at this house too long, so what ever I come up with, it will have to be a bit portable this time!

    Clean slate...

Here is a blank page of the space I have to work with in the new place. The dimensions are in feet, each square is 1 foot, and the 2 black dots are steel posts. There is room under the stairs to run under, if need be! It's about 4'-3" high under the landing. -What are your ideas? I've drawn...
