Copper Ridge on the West Hill RR

Nah, I haven't given up on the hobby. But time has been limited lately. I took last week off so I could get away from anything involving "work," and got to spend a little time tinkering with the trains. Now it's back to work... :(

Copper Ridge on the West Hill RR

It's a little out of focus, but I thought this was a cool shot... That's all for now!

Copper Ridge on the West Hill RR

I wish I had spelled out "Railway." Oh, well. I'm just happy that it ain't naked no more!

Copper Ridge on the West Hill RR

The stock car on the left was formerly a yellow Union Pacific car. The boxcar was a blue Chessie. The flat car is a kitbash made from the frame of a Bachmann stock car. I covered it in wood planks, and made a brake wheel from the original car's wheel and a bit of N-scale ladder. The load...

Copper Ridge on the West Hill RR

During my vacation last week, I got the time to sit down and work on my favorite engine and some of my rolling stock. With some paint and decals, I lettered a number of items for the Copper Ridge Railway. Here are some pics of the train on the West Hill RR at my office. This first picture...

Old Coach at Hearne, TX Service Facility

Greg, I'm afraid that we only got two shots from the side. We took the pictures from the roadside. If you would like the full-sized photos (1600 x 1200, 428KB and 503KB) send me a PM with your e-mail address. You can usually get some details on GATX cars on their website at GATX Reports...

    Help SP cabooses

TexNrails and N Scale Supply both appear to have some Southern Pacific cabeese in stock. I can't vouch for them, though, since I've never done business with either of them...

Old Coach at Hearne, TX Service Facility

Bill, I started doing some research on the web to find info on the coach. So far I've found sites that claim that LCRX belongs to both the Lower Colorado River Authority and the Luzerne County Rail Corporation. Other information I've been able to glean from various sources is that there has...

Coupled to the coach is this little tank car. I dunno... Was it there for convenience, or what?

Old Coach at Hearne, TX Service Facility

There is a car service facility to the west of Hearne, TX. This old coach was sitting up front. I don't know anything about her... She has LCRX on the side by the door...

    Busy day at Valley Junction

Here is a shot of the crossing (on the other side of the bridge from the picture above). Yes, I stopped the car in the middle of the highway. No one was coming! We met the train that everyone else was waiting for, heading west, when we got into Hearne. We didn't have the camera ready in...

    Busy day at Valley Junction

A bridge crosses over the track just south of the crossing. This train of empty hoppers (coal?) was waiting, too. On the north end was a very long train of mixed freight cars on a siding. Two engines were sitting nearby (not connected to any cars). My wife took a picture of the two...

    Busy day at Valley Junction

Valley Junction is a grade crossing between two parts of the UPRR Austin Subdivision. There's not much out there except cotton and corn fields, a pecan orchard and a silo. But today seemed to be a pretty busy day for the railroad. After eating lunch in nearby Rockdale, we saw our gravel...

    Busy day at Valley Junction

As my wife, son and I were returning home from a trip to Cedar Park/Austin, TX, we saw a freight train carrying gondolas full of gravel heading east on the Austin subdivision of the UPRR. It was heading for Valley Junction, which is just a few miles west of Hearne, TX along U.S. Highway 79.

    Austin Steam Train Association

The ASTA rail yard is located behind a fairly new shopping center called The Rail Yard. Among the many businesses there is a new hobby shop called The Collectible Caboose. The proprietor, Craig Berry, was very nice, and the prices there were reasonable on most items. He offers discounts to...

Here is the Nickel Plate Road "City of Chicago" coach, and another one of the A&TC coaches. A pipe forest is growing in the foreground. So that's where PVC comes from... :)

    Austin Steam Train Association

Here is an old Santa Fe coach. The SD40-2 in the background is a former Union Pacific engine that now belongs to the Austin Area Terminal Railroad. I think it's brother, #3003, was also sitting in the yard. I don't know why they were there. The steam engine is currently away being...

    Austin Steam Train Association

I'm on vacation, and my family and I went to Cedar Park to visit the church we attended there and visit some of the local hobby shops. Here are some pictures I took of the coaches of the Austin Steam Train. More info can be found at the Austin Steam Train Association website. There is a...
