    tehachapi loop closed to railfans!!!!!!

As an aside, there are a lot of places to Railfan the Tehachapi loop from public roads. I railfanned the TL many times and didn’t have to trespass to do it. Greg Elems

SP 6304 Parked in Moscow, ID

ScratchyAngel, Great pictures considering the weather. As far as WI buying that unit, that's news to me. Last I heard, it was leased to them. It was also painted in the WP Zephyr paint scheme in 2004 prior to getting painted in the SP Blackwidow paint. The WP Historical Society used it...

Looking for Dimentions of N&W 611

There were drawings of the NW 611 in Model Railroader in the mid 70's IIRC. You could get your dimentions from that. Greg

    Correct UP/SP "Patch unit" Procedures

Just drop the patches right on top of the old lettering. Don't worry about the numbers matching, UP didn't. :D Also throw in some small UP initals above, in front of the numbers. It was a quick and dirty patch job usually when UP does it. A lot of units got the patch and were never painted...

    Caboose question

The Sealand train ran out of fuel. The train following was pushing. Bad timing, air was set on the SEAL and the events started to unfold, with the D&H caboose being the bottom of the pile. Greg

    Caboose question

The first UP caboose I saw in the early 70's was on an Espee freight train parked in Fresno CA. The next one I saw was on the Tidewater Southern ( a WP subsidirary) in Modesto CA. I also recall riding in a DRGW caboose on the Tidewater Southern in the early 70's. The conductor then let us go...

Hey PRRman welcome to "The-Gauge." Lots of good people here to help and listen and great modelers too. :) Greg

    my inspiration into On30

While the 1/50th vehicles are smallish for standard gauge, I like them next to the On30 equipment. Just seems right in my mind, maybe because it makes the Colorado 3' stuff look better since the Bachmann On30 is that 6" narrower. Confused, I am and won't try to rewrite that last statement. :D...

Any Idea what these would be

If they're in a UP yard, they are called clearance cones. They are there to tell the crews how far back the cars need to be in a rail to clear the lead. They make it easy to tell if a car is in the clear from a distance. Greg

    Fast Tracks

Loren, When you get the jig, be sure to tell them what rail you will be using. I have a supply of ME rail and can easily get it at the LHS so the rail fits nice and the gauge is right on. As for the guard rails, the jig works fine for my NWSL wheel sets and higher quality items. The lower...

    UP's GP15-1's

Russ, I have no idea why EMD chose that design for the GP15. I've been told it is the same system that EMD used on the MP15AC. Greg Elems

    Pics From Back Home

Or they did that so they could say it couldn't be steam up again and get credit for retiring them. UP used to cut out the serial number from the boiler/firebox and send it to some government agency to prove the engine had been retired I've been told. I hadn't heard of the Santa Fe cement...
