    Lionel Cardboard Trains... value?

I'd do an ebay search and see if there are others out there. I'm sure it would seel if you put it up, but I'd want as much info on it myself. It may be that one piece that some collector needs to complete a set. Never know.

    Metal in ballast

Wow, that's almost like one of the engine oil makers saying that they know that their product has sand in it, but don't worry about that, it won't hurt your engine. I guess it doesn't matter until people's equipment starts smoking.

    flex vs hand laid track

I used to handlay track when I modeled in HOn3, but at that time it did produce the best looking track since Shinohara's code 70 flex with the big chunky spikes didn't look quite prototypical. The fact that you can lay down the ties then the ballast is a real plus. However, I'm going to be...

Our Layout (Info and pics to share as goes up)

Wow, that was a pretty intense room before you painted it. The Mianne bW is some nice stuff. I've seen it at a show it it is well made. All nice and straight and not a bad price for what you get. Nice presentation. Which CAD program did you use?

    be careful!

The most dangerous knife is a dull one because it takes more energy to force it through the material. I learned to buy knife blades in the handy 100 count family pack. At the first indication a blade is getting dull, out it goes. That really goes for any cutting tool, unless I can sharpen it...

    Question for 12-14

I'm with Collyn, except I use 3rdPlanit for the trackwork. I'll doodle up some ideas, draw them up on the computer then print out the plan, doodle it to death, adjust the compter plan, print it, doodle it to death and so on. I've been working on the same plan for some months now. I can't get...

who knows this steam engine pic from 1912

I stand corrected. Excellent info Doc. I thought the valve chest on the 10-wheeler were piston valve and it was hard to tell from the thumbnail pic that I have. I don't have one of the Bachmann 10-wheelers, yet, but it's a coming.

who knows this steam engine pic from 1912

The Rounhouse "Old-timer" 4-6-0 would be more appropriate. The loco in the pic has "D-slide" valves and uses Stevenson valve gear, which was common up to 1900, as opposed to Bachmann's model, which has Piston valves and uses Walcherts valve gear that came into vogue after 1900.

    Ebay rant

Yeah, reply and tell him that you can only take paypal and if he has a problem that you'll be happy to retract the auction and relist for others. He should know better than to assume. I don't know why he wouldn't use paypal, it's such a convience.

    Computer Design Software

3rdplanit, it's goood. There is a learning curve, but it's all relative to how much time you spend trying to figure out how to do certain things. Case in point is the easment feature and how it works, especially in the freehand mode. It still drives me up the wall. I wish it had a...

    Weekend question, 12-8, 9 and 10

I am a professed Packrat and have filled up shops with stuff/junk. I've had to cut back, it was too much. I still trying to train myself to put my tools away after each daily use. It's easier if every tool has a home to go to everynight, but they still have to actually get there. :thumb...

    Pearl Harbor- forget or remeber?

It's a shame that a whole lot of people don't have a clue as to what even happened. I heard a reporter say that when he asked some young lady what she knew about Pearl Harbor, she thought it was in Missouri. No wonder some people think we can just talk our way out of this present situation...

    Intoduction and First layout

Yes, as a matter of fact. I just figured the foam cutting machine operator wasn't paying attention. It's no big deal. Of all of the WS risers I've bought, they all ended up getting hacked up and made to work. I used them at first when I was working out my trackplan on my old shelf layout...

    Advice on Good window materials...

either black styrene or clear styrene with a black backing. You can increase the illusion of depth by making curtains or shades that can be sandwiched between the clear and the black styrenes. My $.02
