    Items taken

Well, whoever got them should post pics of the 2 structures once they are placed on their layout! Nice buildings by the way. :thumb:

    How-to make ground cover...

This stuff looks great! Have you put it on a layout yet? I'm wondering how well it worked during the install, with using "wet" water and glue.

Officially my official layout thread, authentically official

Wow, that is some serious mish-mosh of stuff. I see fireplace log boxes, Avent baby stuff (breast pump?), cordless drills, birthday gift bags, saw horses, bankers boxes? Good news is it looks like all that stuff can get stowed away all nice and tidy pretty quick. But I also see the most...

    An Age-Old Railroaders Problem

Only 4 locos for me. And about 15 cars. That makes for about a 1 loco per 4 car ratio. :thumb:

need some help on my shelf layout

I think I agree with GEC with his point about not creating a staging area underside. I believe you said you were going to have an 18" wide shelf all the way around. Why not take one area of the layout, and make it wider (say 30" wide by 3' - 4' long) to create a yard on the same level as your...

Do you model less in the summer?

My interest and time spent on model railroading definately wanes in the summer. A lot of that has to do with my kids more than me though (baseball, going to park, bike riding, etc).

Where are the Great Young Model Railroaders?

Well, at 36 years old, I'm really not that "young" anymore. And since I am just getting into this hobby, I am nowhere near "great", and with 3 young kids, I doubt that I will get anywhere near greatness for many years to come! But to address the idea that the industry is dying (ie where are...

    New boys in town

Great locos. :thumb: I've been eyeing that P2K GP7 (the maroon and creme one) on Walther's website. It's on sale for about $130 as I recall, with DCC and sound.

Seth Godin Talks About What's Wrong With Hobby Stores

iis612, you should check out Des Plaines Hobby Shop if you ever get up in the area. I would be interested to see what you think about it. It is only the 2nd hobby shop I have been to in the Chicago area, but it seems FAR superior to the first one. The first hobby shop I went to was in Park...

    Hi again all!

I wouldn't be me without saying that you should GO BIG with your layout. Seriously though, I think if you can incorporate your already created layouts into a larger, comprehensive layout, that would be the way to go. :thumb:

    Internettrains.com ? Worst decision ever!

This topic kind of begs the question, what do you all consider to be the "top of the line" internet train stores? I have only ordered from www.walthers.com -- main page, and Trainworld - 718-436-7072, and both places offered decent prices, and speedy shipping. I would state that with...

Does anybody else have problems with this forum locking up your computer?

I use IE 7.0, and really don't have any problems. Sometimes the pages take a while to load (longer than most other websites), but I presume that it is the spam/phishing filter on IE doing its job.

    Spiders, Spiders, everywhere....Help!

Isn't there some sort of rule that we, as humans, are never more than 2 or 3 feet away from a spider pretty much at all times? Speaking of spiders, has anyone ever been about 80+ floors up in a real tall building, and seen huge spider webs (with huge spiders) on the outsides of the windows...

Building a Module; CAT Equipment Rental Building

Josh, Great looking CAT building! :thumb: What did you use for the roof gravel for the building? Also, where do you buy all of your semi trucks and trailers? I am about halfway through building the Magic Pans Bakery (I know you are familiar with this kit  ), and I don't have any...

what sound decoder to get for P2K Alco S-1?

Squid, I think you just answered the question to my edit regarding "you get what you pay for" in terms of quality on the sound decoders. I am guessing that the soundtraxx decoder I listed for $55.95 is going to have more generic sounds, and not as good a sound in general compared to the...

what sound decoder to get for P2K Alco S-1?

Deano and Slekjr, thanks for the input. I dug around Tony's Train Exchange website again and found the area for sound decoders. The list I came up with before was from a decoder installation PDF on their website, so I was in the wrong area . It looks like that Loksound #72494 is the...

what sound decoder to get for P2K Alco S-1?

I just recently ordered 2 locos from trainworld. The first has DCC and QSI sound already installed, and the second is just DCC ready. The DCC ready loco is a PROTO 2000: CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN ALCO S-1 # 1227 SKU 21354 I want to install a DCC sound decoder into this loco when I get it, but...

Can anyone make me a decal?

Can those Testors Decal kits work for structures as well? I just finished building the Walthers Glacier Gravel kit (I promise to post some pictures as I attempt to paint it!), and would like to use a different name than the stock "Glacier Gravel" logos. I think I could create a cool logo for...

Another great looking building Trucklover. I also really like the weathering job on that Mack!:thumb:
