Not yet, still a way to go but thanks, I appreciate the interest. Going round my daughter's house later today to slap a bit more colour on the wall. I don't have a smartphone or camera so she's emailing me a photo every 2-3 days. We're taking the pics from approximately the same position so I'm...

Line drawing over the pencil lines painted with Burnt Umber acrylic, the idea is this 'under-painting' will show through as I'm applying colour.

Managed to make a start on the mural. Drawing made with watercolour pencils (washes off easily). Grid lines 250 mm apart.

Mural update: modified the foremost sauropod on the mural image, it had been bugging me for a while so I replaced it with a new drawing. An improved head and more plausible forelimb pose. The head is a little on the large side (trying dramatic perspective like I did for the cerato) but I'll...

My current 3D work is intended for my Shapeways shop so showing the WIPs would probably be promoting commercial interests which I believe is frowned upon here. At the moment I prefer smaller scale projects. Never say never though :) Years ago I did a couple, they can be fun so I hope you get...

I normally post my 3D modelling WIPs on the Dinotoyblog and BlenderArtists, if it develops towards papercraft stuff this forum will be promptly notified. I've heard of these, not something I'm planning but a neat idea. Thanks.

Thanks. When drawing, dinosaurs often break down nicely into simpler 3D forms so a ceratosaurus head starts as a wedge shape, the thorax is an egg etc. These little formulas are the basis of everything for me. I've got to know these animals quite well over the last month and I'd really like to...

Thanks, I'm surprised by the response to my 2D stuff, really encourages me to do more. Colouring up eats more time than a hungry sauropd eats conifer needles. Once I start I find it hard to stop until it's finished, I look at the clock and suddenly it's 3.30 am .

Some prep drawings for Camarasaurus pair. Not bothering with a final layout, just going to put the elements together and see what happens. Some quick conifer branches, probably shuffle these around a bit until they're in a reasonable position.

I draw on the screen with the pressure sensitive Surface Pen, the device has touch too but that's not useful to me. I won't be repurposing the mural image for large format print. What I might try is to put some other pics (my cerato pair maybe) on a couple of poster print sites. Who knows? I...

Not doing arty things for for the past few days, last night I scratched down an idea that had been bouncing round in my skull. Not done for the mural but clearly I still haven't got Camarasaurus out of my system yet :D. Back to real pencil and paper for this one, where would I be without my A4...

Thanks, My Surface pro is now my drawing tablet. I have an old Huion 610 tablet which is great but I can't seem to get used to drawing in one place and looking at another, the eye/hand disconnect just doesn't work for me. Full canvas size is 2070 x 2462 pixels, not mega high but enough...

Thanks, as a wee lad, Stegosaurus was often shown as green/turquoise with red/orange plates. There's a lot more creativity in modern dinosaur art but we wanted to avoid that old colour scheme. The orange-ish Ceratosaurus was grandson's choice as he wanted it to be 'tiger-ey'. I suggested the...

Thanks, I'd like to claim the bright colours are because it's for a child's bedroom but the truth is, I've never been subtle with my colour use :).

Up till 5am fiddling with this. After discussing colour preferences with grandson No 1, the study came out like this. Had another look after a sleep, I think I need to fix the posture of the front sauropod. In trying to make the pose more 'dynamic' I put a little too much bend in the...

Thanks Thanks, I try to get the basics right Maybe he just wants a hug! :) Well the lads liked the scene so I'm not going any further with alternative designs. Refined the drawings a bit, I've started blocking in a colour rough already, kind of bright and sunny. I'll push to finish over weekend.

Rough layout for mural, not the most elegant of compositions but probably OK for a bedroom mural for two boys under 6. My aim was to get the dinos nice and big in the frame at the expense of environment. Might be worth going back to the older design with the stegosaurus in the middle and the...

Yet more poses! Having another go with the Surface Pro and it's starting to feel more natural for drawing. I'll never give up traditional materials completely but there's some nice advantages to digital. For drawing figures and animals, I like to find the pose with a few loose gesture...

Thanks, I'll probably shift elements around a few times until I'm content, As well as being indecisive there's a couple of little guys I have to consult with too! :) Acrylic, it's pretty easy to use. No idea yet what colours I'll go with.
