    Favorite steam passenger power?

Yeah, the BLI M1b is pretty awesome. I also like the Duplex, mostly because I read stories of Pennsy engineers racing through the backwoods of Pennsylvania at night doing 140mph. The actual steam speed record is probably held by some engineer in a Duplex who was late into Pittsburgh one night...

    Doubling Up On Engines

Short answer, no. Two transformers attached to the same section of track makes for bad short circuits. Long answer, unless you are running a long train under DC control with a pusher at the rear end in a different block, no, you can't have a different transformer for each. Hope that helps

Weekly Photo Fun of The Week:9/28

Dear Lord, the 2101 is a powerful engine! It must be hauling 30 cars there without a booster. And to think, it was originally built as a 2-8-0 and rebuilt as a Northern later.

You know, I was just thinking, those classification tracks are not very long for such a sophisticated yard design.

Q: Upgrade Zehpyr or get the Empire Builder?

Everything I've heard and read suggests that the MRC Prodigy systems are user friendly, versatile, reliable, and a great value. :thumb: Whereas Digitrax systems seem to be needlessly complex and overpriced. wall1 Just an observation.

    Purchasing Advice

I wasn't worried so much about the old "toy" bachmanns, so much as the mid 90's Bachmann Plus and Spectrum, where they were trying to show that they had quality but it was only surface detail with the same drivetrain underneath. Sorry, I sound cynical today. Thanks for the advice! I think I'm...

    Purchasing Advice

Yeah, C&O passenger power is hard to come by in plastic. I've been spying a brass Greenbrier for a while. I like the look of the Spectrum 4-8-2, but I worry that it has the jerky, whiny performance of the older Bachmanns I've had. I guess you could say I'm not modeling a particular aspect of...

    Purchasing Advice

I'm looking to make my next C&O steamer purchase, as I'm slowly trying to build up a small, but diverse roster since I changed my era to the late 40's. My last purchase was a BLI 2-8-2. Which should I go for next? Here's my list: - Proto Heritage 2-8-4 - Rivarossi 2-6-6-6 - Broadway...

    When were Horn-Hook couplers invented?

Decent plastic knuckle couplers hadn't been invented in the early years of Proto 2000, or life like would have put them on. They figured most people would just convert to kadees. Kadees are far better than any plastic knuckle couplers.

Need some help with a trackplan

Remember the first rule of layout planning. Don't put turnouts in inaccessable places. The ones in the tunnels will always break first--- Murphy's law. If you plan to have hidden staging or a hidden reverse loop, make sure you have good access to it from underneath, or removable access...

    Plaster Scenery Tip

Yeah, it does take quite a bit more paint since you're not just covering the surface. I can't stand those little white flecks though. :)

    Plaster Scenery Tip

I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but I've found that when mixing plaster or hydrocal for use on scenery it helps to mix the paint color you want the ground to be directly into the plaster. It doesnt effect the curing properties of the plaster and saves you another step if you want to...

    Rant: Outrageous Pre-order Lead Times

Its such a pain trying to get BLI locomotives. Almost not worth the wait. Especially since they've been having trouble with quality control lately.
