    Miniature Machining

Same here. Once you read the manual and become familiar with your machine, experience will be your best teacher. Measure twice then cut once. I've been thinking of building an equalized frame too. I have to get some of these other projects off the work bench first.

Oldies but Goodies. The Old Stuff.

I came across this Aristo Craft 0-8-0. The tender truck was broke and the motor was missing. (I put a can motor in it) I've seen a few Aristo Craft locomotives on Ebay, I notice alot had zinc rot issues.

    Scratch Loco

Here are a few links, they're not as in depth as articles you would find in MR but might give you some ideas. This is about working with wire and jigs. http://forum.zealot.com/t99924/ This one shows working with brass sheet and shapes. http://forum.zealot.com/t102430/ There are others...

    Scratch Loco

As far as what tools I use, most of the models I posted photos of in the Kitbash here and scratch-build there thread were built using basic hand tools. It wasn't till about 5 years ago that I bought a lathe and milling machine. They make some jobs easier but you can build a nice model...

    Scratch Loco

I model in O, (2 and 3 rail) HO and N scales. I used to do some 1 1/2" modeling. I made a few different tools to emboss rivets. On a few of my first projects I laid the sheet metal on a piece of wood and used a nail to emboss each rivet. (crude but effective)

    Scratch Loco

Your loco projects are coming along nicely Guys. I've built a number of locos from scratch. Here's a few examples. http://forum.zealot.com/t111837/ http://forum.zealot.com/t99167/ The articles that Russ mentioned are a great starting point. Learning the propper use of tools and doing...

    Who made these.

When they became Hobbyline they went to plastic shells and drives. The metal JE versions are getting scarce. The tubing coupler as mentioned above is what they used and works well.

    Who made these.

Hi Jim, What you have are a John English FA1 & FB1, which later became HobbyLine. I have a John English FB1 I am trying to piece back together.

Been a while since we had a....

Here's a few I've put together. The BN caboose started out as a cheap trainset Bachmann. The P&LE Bobber started out as a Play-Art (Model Power?) The CP is a Silver streak kit. The PRR cabin car is a kit-bash using 2 Tyco cabooses. The last is an N scale Rapido caboose I repainted.

Adding pickup contacts to N scale

The wipers I used are a stock Bachmann part. I have cut my own wipers from .003" phosphorous bronze sheet with scissors or a paper cutter. They do deform when you cut them (curl up like a pigs tail) and need to be straightened out. I solder a wire in the center, feed the wire through a...

Adding pickup contacts to N scale

These are wipers I installed on a Bachmann 0-6-0. The wipers are from a 70s era Bachmann F9. They fit without any modification other than soldering wires to them. I also added some weight in the tender. Only 2 wheels per truck pick up power through the axles. I have tried all wheel pickup with...

If it's the same thing that happened to me a couple of months ago it is embedded in your computer. No anti ad ware/spy ware/malware program I could find would remove it and my computer became unstable from trying to disable it causing me to loose everything I had on it. I have a pretty good...

This is the train that started it all for me, but what could it be?

That would be neat to see in person. Here's another related site. One of the pages on this site shows the motor and drive train of the loco. MTC Trains I stumbled across these sites the other day when I did a search after seeing the one listed on Ebay.
