Photo Fun week of Feb. 1

Tyco kit JW, That Tyco kit is fantastical. Like you say, it looks like it has been thru too many storms. If you had put weeds around it, I would have sworn it was for real. Great job, and I love it. Lynn

    Making plaster of Paris Molds

molds I generally use a spray of soapy water, just to get it wet, then pour the POP. It works for me. I have even used WD-40, very light coating. Make sure the mold is clean before you pour. Lots of luck. Lynn

Looking for a tutorial on locomotive repair

one truck SFJack, I am not into DCC, so I stay very simple in everything. If one truck is running and one not, there is one thing to look for, but in several places. One is a gear slipping on a shaft. That has happened to me a fair number of times. Or a gear shifts out of alignment and doesn't...

    Derailment Problems

derailing Several questions, first, does it derail regardless of direction? Is it a diesel or steam loco? If you push the cars across the switch without the loco, do they derail too? Those are questions to start troubleshooting. Lynn

noticed John, I never noticed that the "thingy" was going backwards until you mentioned it. Must be a fair to middling wind blowing to get the smoke going in the same direction it is moving. Lynn:eek::eek:

Advice on what structure models to avoid

gauge I can't help on the bldgs, but just a thought on the N or HO. Without knowing your age, the only thought is eyesight. If you have many years to go, either gauge. IF you are getting rickety....senile......ancient..., I'll get it in a minute, oh yes, up in years, the I'd pick HO. Lynn

Need tips on Turf and grass

scenics It seems Gary was the only one touching on it, but you mentioned grass and stuff pulling away, or balling up when you spray it. You have to use "wet" water first. A couple drops of liquid soap, denatured alcohol, or windshield washer fluid, in a small spray bottle of water cures that...

    HO Train Layout

ideas I don't know how long the tunnels will be, but unless they are quite short I would definitely suggest a way to get inside. Dirty track and derailments ALWAYS happen inside tunnels. (experience talking) Lynn

Puzzling Question for British & North American Modelers

British LifeLike Rob, I finally got those pix. The first 3 are European LL, with a Welsh 4-6-0 prototype. The loco has G W, and the cars "Cornish Riviera Limited". The other 2 pix are 0-6-0 and 3 carriages. Lynn

Puzzling Question for British & North American Modelers

British Robert, I have some thoughts on that European vs American quality. About 12 years ago I found an (HO) train set. After research, the locomotive was exactly like a Welch prototype. I think it was the Prince Of Wales, or something on that order. It has 4 matching passenger cars. The thing...

    old time equipment

Skull Madhatter, you sure ask easy questions. To get an HO cow skull, you kill an HO cow, then let the HO buzzards pick it clean before the HO sun bleaches it. I thought everbody knew that. Lynn

Why don't you participate in our photo contests?

Great pictures SPmodoc, I agree with you, up to a point. Sometimes the winner doesn't seem the best to me. But I still vote for the one I think is best. But if I thought the same way as everybody else, I wouldn't be me now, would I? I'm not fussing at you, just trying to say what I think. The...
