    Track Bed

Cork is fairly popular. Or was. I'm not really sure anymore (: http://www.iblproducts.com/roadbed.htm Comes precut to fit under a lot of track pieces or in rolls for lots of flex track. Usually it's two strips that you can bend and flex a fair amount.

What mistake have you done and what have you learn about it.

** You can always cut more off but it's difficult to glue some back on.

Two tables assembled. Ten more to go. Give me your thoughts on initial arrangements. Anything jump out at you with any of these, or variations on these?

    Turning a Train

I see nine decks (?) and five sets of track per level. Looks about six feet long. That's one hell of a staging system. I'd want it about four times that long and with two levels for trains to leave from and maybe twice as many decks. That would be brilliant for a big 2400 sq foot club layout.

    Layout Support

I use 2x2s for legs, I think a lot of people use 2" PVC pipe. Others use the fold up legs you find on folding tables. The only thing I suggest is don't over do it. These things are generally pretty light and it doesn't take much to build a sturdy support.

    Prepairing to begin again

*BREAKING NEWS* There is lumber in my garage waiting to be sliced and diced, screwed and bolted. Woohaa! Maybe this weekend I'll find a few hours to run the circular saw. Need to get the D-Walt charged up and ready to go.

    Reason to photograph outside

Yeah, pretty much you're modeling the Sun. One seriously intense light source. But as you say, it's not good for regular lighting of a layout. Though I'm sure some people have come up with some clever ways of making "dioramas" within their layout which have independant light sources.

    Flex-Track: MP vs. Atlas

Well, it's a &@$# to replace track once you've got it all installed, so go with what you know, I say ;)

    Prepairing to begin again

Ah, hadn't thought of that for this project. But we did get a quote for pocket door installation on the downstairs half-bath due to similar reasons (the door actually hit the toilet lid ...). The expensive part wasn't the door installation but moving the electrical stuff that were where it was...

    Prepairing to begin again

Well I was working on this sort of thing before I realized I'd left 2' off the tail, which is exactly what you were recommending! Ha ha! But judging by the measurements I posted earlier in the thread that would put the legs SMACK in the middle of the closet doorway. Have no fear! I have even...
