    track and controller recommendations

Hi - it might not have been made clear that you can mix and match set-track and flexitrack. For example, Atlas (US prototype track) has both flexi-track and matching set-track in both Code 80 (taller rail profile) and Code 55 (closer to prototype). Peco has the same in UK-type track (UK in terms...

    Paint colors on smokebox/chimney

I've long wondered why the smokebox and chimney of steam engines are usually painted black or silver, even if the rest of the loco is another color. For example, in Britain steam engines were painted in a variety of colors: greens, red, blue, even brown; but the smokebox & chimeny were always...

How to paint the DPM #512 roadkill cafe

Hi - if you go the DPM website (http://www.dpmkits.com/) and choose N Scale from the menu across the top, and then choose NScale kits when the menu pops up, you find a full-color picture of the Road Kill Cafe once you scroll down a little. This will tell you what colors DPM think it should look...

    ConCor SPFE 50' ribbed reefer

I have a ConCor 50' ribbed reefer in SPFE colors, with a running number of 676898. I can't find a record anywhere of this as a genuine number. The SP number 676898 is a different animal altogether (but I assume SPFE had separate running numbers from SP, or...?) Can anyone tell me if this is a...

SP Black overnite boxcars: roof color?

Unfortunately Athearns don't list them anymore (presumably they're out of production). Of course, there are silver-colored Overnite boxcars (the later livery) - do your friend's boxcars have black bodies and silver roofs, or are they silver all over? Thanks for the info anyway!:thumb:

Color query re roofs of SP Overnite Black boxcars

Models of the SP black livery Overnite boxcars all have black roofs, but it's been suggested to me that in reality these wouldn't have been painted but been in a silvery or aluminum color. Does anyone know what's correct with these? Thanks!

    Z Scale Garden Railroad?!!

I was thinking ( ) that in a G Scale Railway, some of the G Scale inhabitants might want to have their own Garden Railway. In which case, a Z scale layout would work as a fairly large garden railway for one's G Scale people. Has anyone ever done this, or thought about it?

    Ffestiniog Railway

Great for a Welsh exile like me to see these pics. Folk might like to know as well, that the Ffestiniog RR is rebuilding its sister line (the Welsh Highland Light Railway), which will be over 20 miles long and reach from Caernarfon to Porthmadog (Ffestiniog RR goes from Porthmadog to Blaenau...

suggestions for system for both N and G?

Just a thought - if you combined the two scales, then the N trackwork could act as a really large Garden Railway for the G people living in your G layout.....

    New Atlas engine purchase?

Hiya - My Atlas are also fine, and I'd think you'd be happy with them. I've had good experience buying from the following online retailers: www.nscalesupply.com www.4nscale.com and www.wig-wag-trains.com I'd recommend all these three.

    What are these?

Hiya - welcome back to N Scale!! If no-one on the forum knows these items, it might be best to contact someone at Atlas - presumably they keep records of their earlier track types, and could tell you whether they are compatible with modern systems. Good luck!

SP Single Color Light Signal System query

Can anyone explain how the SP Single Color Light signals are used? If you have only one lamp, how do you show red/orange/green? Did they always come with one lamp above a second? - and if so, were two colors used together to mark a particular state of the road? Any help welcome on this!
