    Lumber load for a flatcar

Thanks I was surprised how much lumber the one load took and how long it took to assemble them. Wayne I see that you divided your load vertically as well as horozontally. Useing a stick in the thread is a good Idea. I was wondering how to get the tread to look 'right' when finished. After you...

Proto 2000 PS-2, my first involved kit build.

Looks like a challenging build. Reminds me of my first Proto2000 build, the 52' mill gon. I never though that a plactic kit would take that long to build but It sure looks nice when it's finished.

    Lumber load for a flatcar

I worked all weekend (well spare time weekend) on my lumber load for a 40' flatcar. only the top layer of the load is full length boards. the rest of the stack is hollow with only the ends represented. even still it took about 10 2' long basswood strips to do the whole load. I still have...

    Feb. 8 Weekly Photo Fun.....

Great pictures everyone. I thought I'd share the last pictures I have of my 1988 rocky mountain trip. Here's a CP train crossing Mountian creek bridge. I remember hiking through a mile of so of dense brush to get to this spot. The train has 3 SD-40's on point heading up a 2% grade towards the...

    Loading dock for my sawmill

Thanks, Russ, I get what you're saying and it's probably a good thing that I didn't glue the dock down to the layout (yet). I made the dock for loading flatcars with lumber and the ramp is for forklifts and lumber carts. I shot a better overall picture of the sawmill grounds but Photobucket is...

    Loading dock for my sawmill

Thanks. The next project is to start cutting some lumber to stack so the dock looks like it's actually being used. The gravel road is Woodland scenics fine brown ballast. I like it's texure and color of gravel in contrast to their ground foam that I use as my basic ground cover.

    Loading dock for my sawmill

I needed a loading dock/ramp for my sawmill so I scratchbuilt one over the weekend, using basswood from the local craft store. I think the plans came from an early eighties RMC. I prestained all the lumber and assembled the frame on a jig.

I think I'm starting to figure out my digital camera. Here's a few close-up shots of the SW1200rs delivering some empty flats to the sawmill.

Photo Fun week of Feb. 1

Sorry I should have been clearer. These are Ex-Canadian Pacific Cars bought in the mid-fifties. the square shape was the Canadian Pacific drumhead now the Via rail drumhead. As I mentioned earlier the cars are almost exactly like the WP cars, just built for CP. Since this piture was taken Via...

Photo Fun week of Feb. 1

Heres a westbound Via rail train Passing me at eldon siding just past Lake Louise, Alberta, 1988 I had climbed on some parked Ballast cars to get the shot. You should have seen the looks I got from passengers in the dome car as they sailed by. I small bit of trivia here. The dome...

    Loco repaint Q's

Hmmm. That's a tough paint job. I wouldn't use anything more than the toothbrush, anything harsher could damage the plastic underneath. I've never had a paint that wouldn't come off like this. My only suggestion is to just keep working at it. If the paint on the cab came off and it was the same...

    JV models sawmill construction

I did the basic ground cover yeasterday: First I finalized where the log ramp would be since this determines where the sawmill will sit. I also ran a strip of masking tape around the edge of the layout so my carpet would be protected. I masked off where the ramp would touch the...
