    soldered joints

I have had success with both Doc's way and b28_82's way. Sometimes I can tin wire and track with no issues, other times, I use a paperclip bent around to hold the wire in place. Of course, after melting some track, I just went with track connectors with leads and soldered them together.

Do you model less in the summer?

I model pretty much the same year round. I will have to put a hold on working on my layout while other things are happening, but then there are times like this past weekend where I do a thousand and one things to my layout.

Sure is. Used to have 2 horses that came with it. Still do, in a way... my mother has them in a curio box. She basically stole them from me in 1978 and they have stayed there ever since.

    An Age-Old Railroaders Problem

I had better get on the ball. I only have ... uh, 6. No, 8. Ooops 11. Man, I have more than I thought... but still no where near the amount you guys have. And to think, I only just got back into the hobby last year. Oh oh. 11 engines X 15 years... Egads.

    soldered joints

Soldered flex track? Snap track? EZ track? I have tried my hand at soldering the connector leads on my flex track. Every 2 sticks are soldered together (or if you like, every 6 feet has a soldered lead going to my wiring under the bench). I will try to get some pics.

Thanks, Jesso, for the vote of confidence. I need to order some Sasquatches to populate my mountains and keep the hikers guessing. George

On the other side of the lake, we have Hillman's Stock Yards. And then somehow, vehicles from 30 years in the future just showed up for the photo shoot. (Couldn't find my older trucks... and just what the #@&^$&@# happened to my collection of cattle?!? I really have to get organized. This is...

    Garage Layout

I painted Miller's Hill tonight. With the paint still wet, I added some grass and such, then got a little crazy by putting up trees before I was really ready. I still have to add some more plaster and rough it up close to the track, but that is a task for later this week.

Here we see Frank hanging out at his favorite spot when he has some down time. And here is Randy, signaling NP #6003 coming in for a freight drop off.

Thanks, tetters. I wish I was as optimistic as you about the lake, but this is all a learning experience. I have some things I would have done differently now that I know more, but I keep chugging along. George

    On Track, with Deano

That Gern preprocessing plant looks great. I bet the workers are 3% happier in their work! In the UP yard at Nampa, Id, they have 2 of those 15s just rusting away on a siding. I have not seen them move in 5 years. I would take some pics, but I don't have a tele foe toe good enough to grab...

    Fascia boards

Very nice. I am thinking of doing the same thing. The time I walked into my garage and said, "What's that smell?" and realized I had left my soldering iron going all night... wake up call. I have a lot of left over bead board from a bathroom remodel last year. My wife keeps asking when I am...

    Garage Layout

As I was putting on the 2nd coat of paper mache, I got a crazy idea and just cut out a lake. No planning. No forethought. Just got a knife blade out and freehanded a cut. Seeing as how I was putting layers onto my mountain, I laid 2 layer into the lake and then sprayed it a flat black and...

    Garage Layout

Then I decided that the earth isn't flat, so why should my layout be? Here I take a corner piece and put up a little hill. Under the paper mache is a combination of ceiling tile and news paper. I was going to try to use the wire brush and ceiling tile technique, but I wasn't having any luck...

    Garage Layout

As you can tell, I am slow at updating my layout stuff. But that's about to change. I now have 6 overhead shop lamps instead of just 2. That means, I will no longer going crazy about lighting, now I can concentrate on going crazy over layout stuff. When I last left you, I had just planted...

    How do you ...?

Doc, Thanks for the info. I have read all sorts of ways to adhere figures and this makes the most sense, allowing for repositioning. Now, I don't know what the fellow above did, but surely going home to his wife can't be that terrible? Or did he lock himself out of his car and is just too...

    better late than never

I have 2 Stewart F9 A/B units and I concur. They are just sooo smooth. Only trouble I have with Stewarts? I lose all sense of time and get in trouble with the Site Supervisor. George

    How do you ...?

Thanks, Allan. I have some tacky glue... if I ever wish to remove the figures, does the residue clean up easily? George

    How do you ...?

Hi there So, I have searched for the better of half last night and again this morning on a "How To" or even a "This is what I did" when it comes to attaching figures to cars, engines, what have you. See, I have a few open cars and a nice new caboose and some figures I wanna attach to said...

Layout (room) tour...with lots of photos

Doc, As always, your skills are what I aim for every time I go to scenic my layout. And even though I am on broadband, it still took me most the afternoon just gawking, ooo-ing and awww-ing. I am still looking for the right photo technique... maybe another bank of lights. Hmm.... Is there...
