    butane torch

I have a micro-torch I use on rare occasion for larger brass parts, like 1/4" solid brass. For smaller parts and sheet brass I use mostly a 25 watt iron.

    lightweight rocks?

Hi Kevin, I just carve them out of blue foam. Use a hot wire foam cutter for one effect, snap it for another, gouge out some chunks with a thumbnail for another effect. The base of my entry on this page shows the effect acheive by breaking chunks of foam away with my thumbnail, painting...

Great photo's everyone! If ya'll had genuine P-K low smoke stills, ya wouldn't need ta call them hills the smokies :D :D :D 99% of all P-K stills are not busted up by revinuers in the first 5 years after sale*. *estimates based on testimony of one of our customers.

    coupler help needed

It's generally not considered a good idea to mix body mounted couplers with talgo or truck mouted couplers. But as I recall, the Tyco and AHM trainsets of 70's had talgos on the rollin stock and often body mount on the loco's. Are all four wheels on each truck on the offending rollin stock...

    Gandy Dance Dissection

Thanks, Doc :D You'll do fine, fire up that dremel! Jet, you can flip the motor on its side and reduce the height on a 44 tonner truck. Steeple cab trick :) Andrew, the NGSLs are presumably a much higher quality, and definately a higher price. Trainworld has gandys for $15. 44 tonners were...

    Gandy Dance Dissection

I've done it, plus cut off the tool boxes with a dremel. Makes a small, but poopy power truck. 2wd. It can pull one flat car on the level LOL http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=3532&highlight=mack If you can handle a slightly larger truck, a bach 44 tonner (old style) or 70 tonner...

    ami instant road bed

Dang, Mike, sorry for your troubles. :( Maybe on a cold Minnesota you can drag the sheet outside and it might get cold enough to where you can break or pry the stuff off. Give the used roadbed to the neighbor kid to play with before it gets sticky again. :D Maybe sell any unused here or on ebay?

    Fred and Jon's new site-

Robin, don't worry, there's no conspiracy LOL it's for fun. That's the motivation. Fun and helping others. But it's not a forum, it's a news and information site. More specifically, it's a CMS. Besides, why shouldn't we is a better question. Why does NARA exist? Why does it have a site? Also...

    Sheep glue

The WS glues work good for figures, as David states. CAing a pin to the bottom is probably a good, cheap alternative for a foam based layout. I like that Idea. I'm gunna try it!

Cutting down an HO Spectrum Doodlebug.....

I use the table saw and a carbide tipped blade to chop bodies. Smoother cut and more acurate. Wrap in masking tape first.
