    Boston, North Station

OK next to view is my MBTA progress. I currently have 5 Walthers Comet commuter rail cabs for the operation. This makes a fine-looking commuter train, but I would like to buy more standard coaches when Walthers comes out with more. I have added detail components to the cabs to make them look a...

    Boston, North Station

Hi all, Here's the official thread of my Boston-themed railroad! Over the last year I have begun building a new railroad in HO scale. I've been collecting equipment appropriate for railroading at North Station and beyond. I have MBTA commuter rail / MBTA green line, Amtrak Downeaster, and...

    New Walther's reference book....NYC preview?

Hi all, Here's a link to the new 2009 Walther's reference book. www.walthers.com -- 09_ref_books page I'm wondering if the cover is a tease for next year's major US passenger train offering. Looks like the 20th century limited and E units in NYC. This year's reference book shows the...

    First picture

Alright guys thanks for the positive response! I've got a few more I'll be uploading in the near future. I mostly model northern new england railroads, but I've always had a fond image of the BN. My first HO scale diesel engine was an athearn GP38 in BN colors. It was one of the first I had...

How are the Athearn Bombardier coaches?

Hi. I'm thinking about buying some athearn bombardier commuter cars in the future. I'm hoping if any of you own cars you would be willing to chime in with some of your experiences with them. I'm specifically interested in knowing... How well do they work in push-pull service? (similar to...

Thanks guys! I think I'll be saving some cash on my next engine purchases and trying a few bachmanns!

    Bachmann diesels...good deal?

Thanks guys! This is great information for me! I guess now, I'm having trouble deciding which engines are spectrum and which are not... The two major online retailers I use do not seem to distinguish that for me. Do you know which of their Geep offerings are from the spectrum division...

    Bachmann diesels...good deal?

Hi all, Just looking online at some of bachmann's diesel offerings...wondering if any of you own and like them... My nephew has one of the new FT locos, and after seeing it run I was very impressed! Much better than the old pancake motor f-units of the past. The details on the FT seemed...

    Atlas Duo or NCE powerhouse

Thanks Guys, I think I will be going with the NCE system based on your comments. I'm not really looking for anything outstanding as far as features go, but I suppose this could change down the road. I may as well just keep it simple and have the 5 amps right from the start. Jeff

    Atlas Duo or NCE powerhouse

Hi all, I'm converting my layout over to DCC soon. My first impression is that Atlas gives you a lot of bang for the dollar with their system. Unfortunately my layout is a large double track loop...And I like to run tripple-headers on each simultaneously. My current amperage requirement when...

    GP-7 or GP-9

Larry, Thanks for the Reply! Maybe I should just stick with Athearn GP-35s and call it old-school-enough!

    GP-7 or GP-9

Hi all, I'm looking to add a trio of early EMD GP's to pull a coal train on my layout. I think I would like to buy from either Atlas or Proto. Which do you feel would perform similarly to an Athearn RTR on the same voltage curve? I curently run ONLY Athearn RTR locomotives because I need...

    Fine-tuning loco to degrade performance

Adding to DoctorWayne's comments...You might be able to improve motor performance and life by adding a resistor/capacitor pair to the positive and negative terminals of the motor. The R/C crowd has done this for years and years to help cancel "radio noise" from the motor. jeff

    Atlas Snap Relay

YmeBP, Thanks for the link! My application is a little bit different though. Automated "Shuffle Yard"... I have a large single track loop that splits into 4 tracks for 15ft or so. I want that every time a train enters the yard another replaces it. (like a relay race) Before the train...

    Atlas Snap Relay

Hi all, I'm interested in using Atlas Snap Relays to control Atlas switch machines and staging operations. I've not used an HO switch machine in a very long time. The ones I had 15 years ago were toggled by a momentary contact switch and were powered using the AC terminal on my transformer...

Alrighty Thanks for the advice guys! Bones, I've considered using the kato unit track turnouts as well. I've heard nothing but great things about them! Perhaps I should save up and get the good stuff.
