    How old are you? Revisited

What about 1985 to 1990? And the other ranges are overlapping, which is not very accurate. Cool poll though.

Why I love being in a modular club

Yeah, I totally agree. I just got back into model railroading a year or two ago, I am a high school student, and I got to do scenery and stuff for the first time on an HO module. It looks great, and I can learn so much from members of my club who are more experienced, although I have become one...

    HELP...!!! Need to determine amperage..

No, you can't use a meter to measure DCC. It also won't hurt the meter, the meter will just give you crazy results. We have meters at the modular club I belong to, and we use DCC sometimes, and there are no problems with them. They still work for DC (thats not saying that anyone actually looks...

    Sorry I can't provide more Europe-specific info.

Free-moN link (for the US anyways, might differ in Europe): http://www.wesleysteiner.com/mr/Free-moN/main.html

    Fremo US inspiration needed :)

Ah, so you are making a modular layout. As for the modules, if they are Free-mo, then you have most of your specs already. The comments I am about to make are about the North American Free-Mo (HO scale although they are *very similar* for N) standards, the European ones are the same idea, but...

    dcc newbie

Digitrax Zepphyr is the way to go. It is by far more expandable than any other starter system. The PowerCab is pretty much a joke with only one additional throttle, but the Zpehyr is a "mini Chief", as it pretty much has the same features other than the amount of power and memory as the Super...

It sounds like you are building a home layout in sections as opposed to a module as part of a club? In this case, I would go with a sectional layout, as opposed to a modular layout. A modular layout can be built in any configuration, as the tracks are at standard interfaces, but with a sectional...

    DT400R idle

When you put it in, it is in IDLE becuase it has not been registered with Loconet yet, and does not know what it is doing. You need to plug into loconet, grab a loco, then you can use it. From there, you can unplug and go into radio, if you set the throttle down, it will go into r-ps. You get...

    Buzzzzing

Cool. All decoders have transponding, and you probably won't need the extra amperage, although it is always good to have some margin of safety. That decoder has BEMF if you want it, and of course, like you said 4 functions! All of Digitrax's decoders are awesome, even the basic ones. The more...

    DCC power

True, Digitrax has all of their manuals online, so does NCE. Not sure about others, they probably do as well. If you want signalling and turnout control and the whole thing with a computer, Digitrax just creams the others. If not, there are a lot of options. If you belong to a club, use what...

    My old train!

Thats a BAD ideas on those corners. Looks silly, not flexible for the future. Athearn Challenger does 19.5" radius, claimed 18". Big Boy also claimed for 18". Would look stupid, but should run fine. Not sure about other brands, may require 22".

    My old train!

Bad idea on those tracks. Nice train, I like the NH boxcar. The video, it, um, has like no production value. Guess you were pretty bored. :D

    DCC power

8 functions are plenty to remember. Try remembering 28!!!! I don't even use more than about 4 on my Digitrax system, even with a sound loco.

    20" radius track?

I recommend just flex and turnouts, and no sectional track. The fewer joints the better, sound wise, operation wise, and electrically.

Newb questions about decoders for HO engines

RR&Co works well in combination with transponding. It does not replace it.

    DT400R idle

Mine goes into r-ps (power save), and I hit pwr to wake it up. Maybe disable power save? If you do this, you have to make sure you take the battery out if you are not using it for a while, as it will drain down. You can use a F-F adapter to put a longer cable on, so if you are going to let a...

    Buzzzzing

Bachman decoders are HORRIBLE, as I have said above. Did you try toggling to headlight on and off in a number of different places? It sounds like you have dirty track or conductivity or something. Loco address is CV001, with a value range of 01-99. Using an extended byte address is somewhat...

    20" radius track?

Flex gives smoother track, and is cheaper. I used it to make 19.5" curves (4x8 plywood). Some stuff bends better than others, Atlas Super Flex bends better than the stuff from the box at the LHS.

    Flex Track

I use the cutter tool, and sand the bottoms. Works fine for me. YMMV.
