    City Scene

Wow!! That is some great modeling guys. I hope that my city scene turns out half as nice as that. Thank you for sharing your shining examples. Matt

    City Scene

Thank you for all of the ideas. I am thinking that I am not going to elevate my trackage but rather drop it below grade. This will assist with the forced perception issue of trying to make a big city in a 30" area. I will have the trackage in the foreground with a 2-2 1/2" retaining wall and...

    City Scene

I am trying to figure out how to either elevate my mainline above grade or place it below grade to make a decent city scene. Can anyone offer some suggestions? I have been looking at alot of other people's layouts and I really like the look of the downtown railroad. Maybe I will drive into...

    Matching Decoder to Loco??

Does anyone know of a website or internet accessible database for matching decoders to locos? I know there are a few websites that have small samplings such as the Gateway website. Thanks, Matt

    MMRy Progress

Doctors are too slow Since this whole injury/doctor/surgery thing is moving so slowly I tore up all of the track and started laying down the extruded poly subroadbed. I am not using the pink or blue though. The stuff I have is white, and is almost like styrofoam. It is FAR cheaper and easier...

    trainworld.com??

Has anyone done business with them? If so, how would you rate them? Their last ad showed HO Berkshires starting at $89. I want to know what I am getting into before I throw money at them. Thanks, Matt

    MMRy Progress

No real progress to report. Over the past few days I have not been able to do any work to the layout at all. On Monday I will have new pics as I will get a few things accomplished.

If you look in your local phone book, you will find that there are more attorneys than doctors. I know, I have done it (I have alot of time on my hands)

Thanks everyone. Ralph, That cut out is going to be a river. I have to shape the edges a bit yet though. The bridge will eventually be replaced with a scratchbuilt truss bridge. For now that $3 atlas kit gets the job done. SgtCarl, the benchwork is supported along the concrete wall with...

My official guide to changing my mind over and over again Some of you may already know that I am building a temporary layout. It is not going to much more than a "plywood central". I will work on some structures for it, but most will be cardboard boxes. After surgery and recovery I will shift...

    an off-topic rant about crime

Don, I have never been to Arizona, but I think Sheriff Joe is someone who's intestinal fortitude and drive should be a model for many others in elected positions. I hope he does win by another landslide. I might not agree with everything he has done but I admire his determination and...

    an off-topic rant about crime

Having been a police officer and a 911 operator I can offer some information. First: If you call the police, DON'T GIVE FALSE INFORMATION, EVER!! That can get someone killed, not to mention it is a criminal offense. Let me give you an example, if you tell the 911 operator that you saw a person...

    GERN help needed

I am trying to decide how to put GERN together on my layout. I have a 4x13' area (with the main line running around the outside in a loop) that is going to be GERN and GERN alone (so it has to be good sign1). I have already determined that it will have it's own power generation so I will need a...

    Turnout assistance needed??!!

I found the problem. The area on the stock rail that is notched so the points can sit flush was causing the problem. It felt smooth to the touch but it was still catching my wheel flanges. A quick swipe or 10 with a needle file and now even my worst wheelsets flow smoothly through it. As an...

Scratch built turn out and the use of PC boards

I bought some at Radio Shack and ended up cutting them with a utility knife and a small carpenters square. If you do it this way make several passes on both sides and then it will break along the lines.
