Iron Man Mark VII - WIP

For being a "NEWBIE", you did an OUSTANDING JOB on this model!!!
I normally do not say this, but the white edges give THIS model (as a whole) a whole different dimension. It looks as if it were a prototype that Stark was working on. Personally, I would leave it as it is.

CONGRATULATIONS on a FANTASTIC BUILD!!!
 
You have done very well with this model. Figurines are one of the models that I have not attempted to build yet. I tried with some anime models and they came out terrible. Yours, is fantastic. A job well done.

Silveroxide, my allied brother in arms, having a compliment like this coming from you, makes me think that I should print it and frame it! I have no words but ti say that I'll keep movin' on! It's not just a job, it's an adventure!

I told him that I first wanna make a dozen or so other models, gives me a bit time to learn the craft :oops:

I'm sorry that my model has put you in dire straits with your kid...:oops: all I can say to you is that if you've made that cruiser from scratch, then this model will be a walk in the park.
Julius Perdana has made a wonderful model, maybe with a mistake or two on the instructions, but you can follow REVELL-FAN's great thread on how to build it. I've posted a few comments there about how I've got around those mistakes. Please take a look at http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173468
One more thing: assembling this model is exactly what I think papercraft is about, attention to the details, no rush, and LARGE AMMOUNTS OF PATIENCE AND PERSISTANCE. If you can do that, Than you're in to what it takes and can build anything.
To tell you the truth, I tried to build Uhu02's:inw::inw: Enterprise and something went terribly wrong. So, I did what you're saying: chose some other models and practiced on them. Here they are, showing all their errors:
1) the 1966 batmobile doesn't even show the windshields, and has two different paper thicknesses (great model by Claudio Dias);
2) Scooby-Doo from Tektonten (poor Scooby:cry:);
3) KUN, a Japanese crocodile (???), symbol of a Yokohama city district (not so easy:rolleyes:);
4) Claudio Dias' Mach 5 (another great model almost totally ruined by little old clumsy ME!); and
5) Planet Express' retro rocket (remember Toy Story?), available at www.papercraftsquare.com. I didn't ruin this one (much).
So, stand tall and go for it!!!

Wow your practice models look better than the ones I thought I did good with.. Very nice work.

I have to tell you: these photos do lie, although none of them has been edited. They do not show all of the imperfections clearly, but if you look at Scooby's, you'll see the huge seams in the head, and that the drawings are not aligned.
I've already spoken about Claudio Dias' batmobile and Mach 5, and KUN (the little crocodile) has its feet on the wrong position.
That's just to get me started...:cry:

Your practice models do look good (and yes, I did see the flaw).
You are doing a good job though. My first kit model was Martin Sanger's Thunder Fighter, which can be found here:

The first time I built it, I really was not too impressed with it and rebuilt it a number of different times before I was happy with it. I also helped design (and test build) all of the ADD-ON kits for it (and yes, there are more to come).

I too have UHU02's USS Enterprise and have been waiting until I feel more comfortable in my skills to build it. Now with that being said, I am not trying to discourage you from building it, on the contrary, I am trying to encourage you to continue to build what ever you feel comfortable with and what you want to challenge yourself with.

You see, there are so many people that have tried this hobby and jump right in with an extremely difficult model (not knowing what they are doing) and get turned off from the hobby when they fail at making the model or it turns out poorly.
You are a good modeler, I do not want to see that happen to you (or anyone for that matter). Just enjoy yourself and have fun. That is what this hobby is all about.
You know that if you need any help or advice, we are always here to help you any way we can.

I've seen the add-ons that you have done, and (if I'm not mistaken), you have worked with PreacherMan, haven't you? He's just another great guy.
Changing the subject, I have decided to follow your advice, and started building up a model WITHOUT ANY TABS WHATSOEVER. Now guess what model is that? Yes, UHU02's Enterprise:inw:!!!
But I have one or two things that speak on my behalf: I think I'm a little better at the hobby now, and I'm using the right tools for the job. The models you have seen were assembled using a two-bit knife, on an old wood kitchen board (the ones used to cut meat).
Now I use a precision knife, like X-Acto, and an OLFA cutting mat. Those make you work without any rush, and VERY carefully. I admit that I was kinda sloppy:oops:... And without the tabs, the outcome quality is MUCH higher than my first trials.
So, your advice has been taken and is being followed, and now I have results that really impress me. Not to say that I'm using one of the highest standard models I know. Ron Caudillo's Enterprise will be next.
So, mentor (have you seen Assassins Creed - Revelations?), thanks for the encouragement!!

Thank you as well for the compliments. I know of Preacherman and have seen (and GREATLY ADMIRE) his work, but unfortunately, I have not worked with him on any of his projects (although I would like to. He does AMAZING work).

I am glad to hear that your skills are improving and that you are upgrading your tools and equipment. As your skills increase and you start getting into more complicated models and techniques, you will find that you will want to get more tools and equipment (I am always on the look-out for more tools and equipment).

As for Assassins Creed - Revelations, I have heard of it, but I have not seen it yet. Do you have a question about it?

The quotation about Assassins Creed is about the title. Mentor is how the disciples of the Creed called Ezio Auditore, their order's Grand Master. That's you and Zathros for me!:cool:
About the building thread, I'll do it, of course. I'm just not so good with step-by-step instructions, but I'll post whatever progresses I make, and comment on any tip or obstacle I find.
And let's not forget that UHU02 :inw: has a detailed step-by-step building in his site, although I couldn't find anything on the nacelles. Anyway, his model comes with instructions, and DIFFICULT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE!:mrgreen:

Take a look on the picture before the last one, that's when everything crumbled. When I glued the log "box-like" reinforcementes to the lower part of the saucer, they were probably cut short, and deformed it, ruining one week's work jawdrop.
But now I have the right tools, and maybe the right skills. UHU02 and Ron Caudillo (his model is next) have tackled the best of Star Trek, IMHO.

Fresh start

Howdy!

I decided to start over on the Iron Man, since I will not be using tabs anymore:eek::mrgreen:. When I finish building UHU02's Enterprise :inw:, maybe I'll get back to it, although I would really love to build his "Time Machine" and "Robbie". Also on my UHU02 :inw: to do list is Maria. I think maybe I'll start off with her...
I think we should consider this thread closed for now.

Hey, are you in South Africa? The Rainbow Country? If you are, I've been there a couple of times, and loved it! Unfortunately, I just passed by Johannesburg (flying connection), but I love Cape Town and Simon's Town...
But about this model, it was hard for a newbie like me, but I did it! I encourage you to try and look at LOENF's and REVELL-FAN's threads for better reference. And I intend to rebuild it, now that I'm getting more skilled and have better tools... :cool:

Hey that Batmobile looks great.
you should make the windshields from a plastic bottle.
try to find the correct curve and cut it.

i though about the batmobile..
i would love to build them all..from the series untill the last movie one.
But i'm hooked at the starwars universe. :-)

there is so much to build and so little time and space.
Once i even found a fullsize car....great to build..but what to do with it?

That 1966 Batmobile paper model was desingned by the GREAT BRAZILIAN (YEAH!:mrgreen:) Claudio Dias, and yes, he also did the windshields. And the rear glasses as well. He's a ZEALOT-ian!
You see, when I took the picture, I still used common white glue in the models... and it sucked bigtime, because it wasn't capable to hold paper tension, let alone to glue tranparency plastic to paper, so I hadn't figured out how to put them together... I even tried some hot glue, but it was so darn messy, that I was lucky enough to undo it all.
So, I chose to use the transparent, alcohol-based PVA glue (we call it styrofoam glue here), and everything went fine. The thing is, I gave the model away to my sister, and did not take the final picture, although I intend to build it again.
