Building my own x-wing

:eek:When I saw that picture of those engines, I realized that I did not have the scale of this model properly realized in my mind, das ist unglaublich!:thumb:
 
Yes..

4 engines running smooth...

maybe the flicker is a little to small..
i think that i have to rewrite the sketch of the arduino so that 2 ports are reserved for the flicker..and two flicker leds for each port.

Now i have 1 port with 4 steady leds and 1 port with 4 flicker leds.

But all in all i like it :-)

If you came up with a diffuser shape you really like, I offer as a suggestion using a two part "steel epoxy" to make a mold, using whatever tools at hand to shape it before it hardens, it will give you a great negative for your glue gun. You will be able to pop the melted glue diffuser right out. I would lubricate the mold with petroleum jelly.

Also, you might want to take an LED and mount it into an electric drill, and experiment with different shapes by lightly shaping it with extra super fine sand paper. Doing the tape would diffuse the light, while leaving the sides alone would send that light that way. I have seen people mount them in Lathes and milling machines to get the effect they wish. Just a passing thought. It looks great! :)
 
@ Zathros..the diffusers need to be differt..
your idea of making a mold is perfect for something that needs to be the same.
But my diffusers need to be different..
They had to look a little like flames...and flames are different for every engine.
 
I have started with building the guns..
And until now it goes rather good.

I'm still looking for a good support rod...
the straw was great...perfect size.. light.....but not long enough..
so now i have to dive into my fantasy of what i can find at work..

and use for my guns :-)

I understand what you are saying. In the real construction of jet engines, they must look the same, or there is a problem. My brother in law designs jet engines, and has taught me much. However, recreating a "Star Wars" special effect does not necessarily have anything to do with reality! No matter what you choose, I know the end result will be fantastic! . :)
 
@fokawe..i don't build everything at work...
at this moment my work is the LED soldering part..
And at home i build the guns..
(at work i have a brown desk..at home a grey one)

@ Zathros...Does your brother has also a real jet engine in the garage?..
When i put my engines at youtube i saw homemade jet engines...and they are WAY cool...they look simple...would love to have one to play with
 
today all LEDS for the R2 unit are ready..
i only need to install them into the R2.

i'm waiting for the LEDS i ordered for the cockpit so that i can install finally it.

The cockpit and R2 need to be installed in 1 time.. because i will use my serial solution for the leds...i know it's not the most perfect way...but it works.

The only bad thing...i will can not reprogram the R2...alone...it's always with the cockpit.

hum....that is something for my next project. :-)
 
That gun looks excellent. When something is modeled that big and looks that good, you have really accomplished something! :)

But they look very nice..

i started on the other 3..
Normally i build 1 by 1...
Now i try to build them in 1 time.
Maybe that goes faster, in my mind.

the second picture is from some details which are to be placed under the engine intakes.

that layering is my addition..
i printed that piece 3 times
used 1 as the first layer..
and the other 2 i cut up to get this effect.

i used this with succes on the millenium falcon..
 
i only hope that the folding mechanism can hold up the large wings...
the wings look very heavy....
thank god that the engines are close to the fuselage.
