Blue Star Ready Mix Decals?

Hi guys,

Im building a cement plant on my new shelf layout thats going to consist of a few of Walthers Cornerstone Buildings Including Blue Star Ready Mix, Red X Cement, Valley Cement, Medusa Cement, and possibly a ADM Grain Building converted and kitbashed into another one of the structures i listed above. There will also be 2 Walthers Asphalt Plants Kitbashed and combined into one big plant on site for Blue Star Ready Mix.

Im also going to have a LARGE Fleet of trucks includeing Dump Trucks, Gravel Trucks, Cement Trucks both tandem 10 axles and 18 and 22 wheeler bulk cement trailers. I also want to do up some rolling stock such as open hoppers and cement covered hoppers for Blue Star Ready Mix.

My Question is, where and how would i go about getting decals for all of this stuff? I also need Building Decals for the diffrent structures like in this picture below (Dont mind my crappy decal work in the pic lol, both the decals began to fall apart, think its due to the fact that there a few years old but....lol):

You can save old decals by spraying the surface with a light coat of Floquil Crystal Clear paint and letting it dry completely before you try cutting apart the decals.

Are the various names of these cement companies part of the decal sheets included with the Walthers kits? If so, you may have difficulty getting custom decals made due to copyright laws. I don't know if Walthers makes the decal sheets available separately or not.

Thats a good idea thanks Russ, those decals from the old retired Walthers kits tend to fall apart when you slide them off the decal paper lol

Yes they are the ones that come in the kits, i hadnt thought about copyrights and stuff like that. Maybe i should give Walthers a call or e-mail them to see if i could get my hands on some or not. Even so, i need TONS of truck door logo decals
 
Quite often, the signage that are put on the doors of trucks are just lettering telling the name of the company without company logos. You could do that with Microscale letter and number sets. The other possibility is to scan them into a photoshop program, and then make copies for your use reducing them to the sizes you need. You can get decal film from Microscale, or Micro Mark has decal making kits listed in their current catalog that allow you to make your own decals with a printer including clear fixatives to seal the ink so it doesn't run when immersed in water. The advantage of the Micro Mark kits is that the decal paper Micro Mark sends is in standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. Microscale's decal paper is the same size as their decals which means you will need to resize everything before you print.

Thanks Russ, Ive decided that i like the Blue Star Ready Mix logo so much that i do want it on the doors of all my trucks lol.

I e-mailed Walthers and got a reply back from Sermeng, the Walthers Digital Media Editor, and he has given me permission for a one time use. here is what he said in the e-mail:

"[FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]Hi Josh,

Thanks for your e-mail. There is a copyright on the Blue Star Ready Mix artwork and unfortunately, decals with this particular artwork are not available separately.

As long as you are reproducing the artwork for personal use on your layout, you can go ahead and do that. This permission is only good one time, and the artwork cannot be reproduced for any commercial use. "


[/FONT] I had also asked about how Con-cor got the Blue Star Ready Mix logo's on the Dump Trucks and Cement Trucks that produced at one time and this is what he said:

"[FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]We are not familiar with the circumstances surrounding the Con-Cor items that you described. Permission might have been given at one time to them, but I have no record on file for verification."

So I dont know how Con-Cor was able to produce those Mack Dump and Cement trucks lol.

Im just glad i got permission to make them for my Cement Plant and Trucks :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Josh, Micro Scale does custom decals from customer supplied artwork. If you have the Walthers Blue star decal sheet, You could take it to Micro Scale with your permission letter to see how much they charge for a "one off" custom decal run. The other method would be to get the decal film mentioned earlier in this thread and photo copy the Blue Star sheets to make your own decals.

Josh gave me the website he got custom decals from before so i e-mailed him, ill see how much hes going to charge and if i feel its too much then i will look into Micro Scale :mrgreen:

I would make them myself, but i dont have photoshop :cry:
