Any one have photos of PC passenger cars?

The Penn Central had several schemes for their passenger cars but the Tyco passenger cars I've had since I was a kid are not reflective of a prototypic example.

I've been doing a lot of searching online for photos of PC passenger equipment and I've seen some on a PC video I own (but they are all roll-bys and not static shots). I like the all silver corrugated cars with white lettering on a black background. Unfortunately the best pictures I've found are these.

Any one have anything better they can share?

I'm planning to make my Tyco cars look a little more realistic. Painting the whole car silver and applying the appropriate lettering should be easy. Since the Penn Central lettering seems to be on a plaque attached to the car instead of painted on the car itself I think making lettering on my printer paper and gluing it to the side will look fairly realistic.

I've found some information on appropriate numbers for the cars.

Better views would be great though! :wave:

Thanks Ed! The third shot was the closest. That raised space above the windows apparently has a black placard with white letters spelling Penn Central on some cars and the numbers are centered on the car below the windows with a similar treatment. The black mating worms logos at either end of the car were a nice detail to see.

I took a look at the passenger pics on George's fine site Ed and this one (the George Washington observation car again!) is the closest to those I saw on the video. The coaches on the video have the same Penn Central lettering on the top but instead of a name like George Washington under the windows they have the car number.

I scanned through all of the passenger equipment pics and once again confirm the wide variety of paint schemes. The link above is closest to what I'm planing for my cars. Some like this apparently had a black roof while other pictures show silver. As with many aspects related to modeling the Penn Central, it almost seems you can do no wrong since the railroad probably did it too! :)

After using the photos as a resource I've painted and lettered my old Tyco cars to look more like the prototype photos. Here's how they turned out:

The observation car. Since I found a photo of one named George Washington I decided to choose another president, calling mine James Madison.

Many of the small Penn Central passenger trains I've seen in photos or video were headed by an E8. I don't have one and I'm thinking such a long loco might not look great on some of my layout's curves. So, I'm running the train with an F unit on front.

Now I need to come up with a name for the train...

How about "The Crosstown Limited", the "3:15 to Yuma"(I KNOW I've heard of a train like this somewhere...), or maybe even the "Kings Port Express"?

BTW, is the James Madison observation coach a forerunner of the future cab cars? I say this because in the order of the pictures you posted, it looks like the F unit is PUSHING the train past "Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery", something I don't think came about untill Conrail was split up.

Lastly, here's a few tidbits on PC passenger equipment since you seem to be making your RDC not the only passenger service on your layout:mrgreen::

Hi,
No, the order of the pics wasn't intended to be a run by sequence. The observation car is at the end of the train. :)
