That's right, I have a job! Not just any job, though, I work for a model train store! Today when I went to pick up my Athearn 60th aniversary boxcar from DCCTrain, I asked the owner about getting a job next summer. His response? I can work on commision, and I start now!:mrgreen: I get commision on anything I can get people to buy from DCCTrain, so I'm like a salesman of a sort I guess. They did have one the last time I went there,but it's been awhile so I'm not sure.I'm going to make a trip there this weekend maybe so I can let you know?
As far as custom DM&IR paint jobs?When I worked there (ahem)17 years ago they had some old timers that did a great job doing the DM&IR along with the DWP,NP,ect.,ect.Now?It's not so good.Most of the guys that used to do it have passed on or can't do it anymore and the people he has doing it now are honestly not that good.I would talk to jbakko,he did my custom CN SD70I that I posted in one of your other threads,he did a good job and he's reasonable also.
I have also started to get my DM&IR collection going.I just got a Kato SD38-2 off of ebay and I'm going to be sending jbakko an Genesis SD45 and have him turn it into DM&IR SD40-3 #418 in the "Gopher" scheme hopefully soon.How can you not love that Maroon & Gold "Arrowhead" paint scheme?!

Trick of the trade (since I used to work for a train shop as well): Customers come for an experience, always give them your best and most of all, make your customers friends. I know your not exactly on the shop floor but I think you can still do it via this way. It's always good to make a joke or two if you can, you must just lookm for the right opertunity.
Right now I work in a Coffee Shop/ Restaurant, we greet the customers with a smile, pull out their chairs for them, present the menu and ask if they'd like anything to drink. After they've placed the order for their meals, we need take them the cutlery (this is where I see my chance for a joke). I take it too them hiding what I'm carrying by holding my tray high, with a serious face I say that I have some bad news and that the kitchen has run outta food, so "this is all I can bring them this evening". They normally look shocked and when you lower the stuff on the table they normally loosen up around you and giver a smile (yep, even those that came in grumpy).
Sorry, as usual going off my point. Just give your best to every potential customer and you will get their best. After meeting them a second time we are like friends and we even talk about our private lives- some even ask me to call them by their name instead of Sir or Ma'am.
On the Guage of course it's easy, since we're all frends!! :mrgreen:
