New, from the Erecting Halls of The Mission Valley and Pacific Railway in Sunny San Diego, comes Their #3! It's a Balwdin product from 1898, fitted with traditional Victorian-era embelishments, such as Polished Brass Cylinder Heads, Running Board edges and sand filler cap. Also converted to an oil burner in to provide more economical service in Southern California, bountiful at the time of this unveiling (1910).

In a few days, she'll pull the Mission Valley and Pacific's Premiere Passenger Limited, the Imperial Valley Limited, Connecting Phoenix with San Diego via Palm Springs, Running across the desert in an unheard of 8-hour schedule.

In about 45 Years, (that's 1955 Folks) she will be retired and put in storage, servicable, and perhaps one day, (1985-Present) she shall rise again from desert sands to race across the Imperial Valley.

The Model was based on a Bachmann 4-6-0, with medium re-detailing, and A LOT of detail painting.

So what does everybody think?

Very nice! I like the matching trim, men in the cab, different shades of black along the boiler to show the operating temperatures and the brass of course :thumb:

What does the yellow emblem below the stack say?

PS: Did you paint the KD coupler 'rust' or is that a trick of the light?
 
Looks good, Miles. :thumb: With that big tank, she shouldn't need to make too many stops during the trip, although I hope that the lead truck on the tender gets re-railed before the journey. ;)
The Ten-Wheelers are nice, smooth-running locos: I've got two of them that I'm modernising with piston valves and new cabs and domes. The tenders will be quite a bit shorter than yours, though, as the run is not very long.

The emblem below the stack!
That would be a builders plate.Every locomotive had one.
 
Very nice. I was trying to figure out what it started out as...it seemed too tall to be a Bachmann 4-6-0...and that can't be the original tender. That tender helps create the impression of a very large 4-6-0.
 
Looks great! I really like 10 wheelers. Is that the original tender? What did you use for the brass, it looks REALLY good.
